Rhesus negative

Any other mums rhesus negative? I had DS in the 1980s and he is also Rh negative but I was never given anti D as I realised many years later. Luckily I never had any more chdren or it could have been a disaster.
Any Rh negative stories out there?

Actually, if he was also RHNeg you wouldn't have needed to.

honeylemonteaforme · 28/11/2021 19:07

Nice says about 17% of births are to rhesus neg women.
Stats aside its interesting to me I didn't know we were so much in the minority all I remember is a trainee midwife jabbing me in the bum before telling me I was the first person she'd ever actually injected!

What's 'anti-d'?

What is percentage of donors? 15 or 24%
I've read 15% of UK population is Rh-
I am B- and dh is A+
I had anti-d in both pregnancies

wonderstuff · 28/11/2021 19:09

@ArnoldBee

In the olden days - 2012 and before you didn't get anti d injections during pregnancy. After birth they tested the baby's blood and gave you an injection if required.
I definitely had anti d during pregnancy in 2007

24% of donors are rh negative.

I had my dd in 2003 and had anti-d
Then again in 2006 when I had ds

CalmDownBoris72 · 28/11/2021 19:13

I am and have 5 children with no issues.

They now test your blood when pregnant to work out of the baby is Rh + or - and give you the anti-d during pregnancy only if the baby is positive.

All my 5 are positive so I’ve had anti-d 10 times!

Heepers · 28/11/2021 19:14

I'm rhesus negative. Both my children are positive. I was sensitised in my first pregnancy and my second baby needed treatment when he was born. It was all pretty hellish but he's fine now. This is a very rare problem and I was unlucky.

They can do fetal genotyping before birth now to find baby's blood type but they'll always give anti-D as a precaution.

They definitely gave anti-D in the 80s but as others have said, it's irrelevant as your son was negative too.

CalmDownBoris72 · 28/11/2021 19:14

Same @wonderstuff I had it twice during pregnancy and after birth with both of mine born in 2008 and 2010.

My mum had it with my brother and I too and we’re in our 30s.

ArnoldBee · 28/11/2021 19:15

I didn't in 2012 - I had lots of people getting excited whenever I got my maternity notes out. It got a bit ridiculous at times.

Did you have anti d in your first pregnant? How were you sensitised?
LittleBipper · 28/11/2021 19:15

I'm rh-, I had one injection in the 3rd trimester I think. I was all for not having it as DH is also rh- so DS was always going to be too, plus I only ever wanted one baby but they delicately suggested they offer it to everyone because the father isn't always who they say it is! Also there isn't the resources to check the father to be sure I guess.

DS was born in 2013, there was no suggestion of testing his blood type either before or after birth, they just went on my blood type.

Heepers · 28/11/2021 19:18

They don't know and neither do I - maybe a silent bleed?. I didn't have antibodies at 14 week bloods but I did at 28 week bloods. It's bloody stressful. My dh is heterozygous so each pregnancy there was a 50/50 chance of a RH- baby but we have positive both times.

Yes, it was horrendous needing that on top of giving birth and stitches
Mangofandangoo · 28/11/2021 19:19

I am too, didn't know until I was pregnant

EmpressSuiko · 28/11/2021 19:30

I’m O-Neg, my DD is O-Neg but my DS is B-Pos, I was given injections both times and never had any issues

Not true at all. I'm RH Neg, had to have two lots of anti D during both pregnancies in 2004 & 2008, as well as an extra one after DS was born in 2005 because there were 'concerns'. Both DC turned out to be RH+.
Casamilano · 28/11/2021 19:36

I’m rhesus neg, my dd is rhesus pos. I had amniocentesis and should have been given anti D but it was forgotten. I had anti d after childbirth but I know I have weird antibodies in my blood.

This was in 1989.

user1493494961 · 28/11/2021 19:37

I had an anti d injection following the birth of my first child in the mid 70s.

PAFMO · 28/11/2021 19:53

Before 2012 was the olden days?
Wtf?

Curtainpoleofdoom · 28/11/2021 19:56

What happened, in the real old days, to r- women and future r+ pregnancies?

Duckswaddle · 28/11/2021 19:59

Me. I had all the jabs, both my babies are positive blood types so I needed them after the births too. All fine.

Heepers · 28/11/2021 20:00

@curtainpoleofdoom depends how aggressive their antibodies were but with each subsequent pregnancy tje baby would be more susceptible to something called rhesus disease (basically foetal anaemia which can be fatal)

mnahmnah · 28/11/2021 20:02

I’ve been thinking about this recently. I’m B rh neg. I had anti-D during both my pregnancies (2012 and 2017). I can’t remember if I had it afterwards. I don’t think I did. Does that mean both DC are also negative? I vaguely remember them saying something to me at the time, but obviously I was a hormonal exhausted drugged-up on diamorphine mess!
