Sick to bloody death

Of being in pain and of fucking acid reflux.
I have EDS, psoriatic and rheumatoid arthritis and fibro.
It's fucking shit. I'm so sick of being awake at stupid o clock in the morning.

I can't prop myself up on pillows to sleep as the arthritis in my back plays up but I can't lie down because I get severe acid reflux due to EDS and every time I lie down it travels up my oesophagus.

To make matters worse, one of the cats is storing happily curled up at the bottom of my bed. Show off. Even the bloody mouse has gone to sleep and he's nocturnal (yes I have a pet mouse)
I'm so tired too and I just can't sleep Sad

Hope you managed to drop off OP - and can take it easy today Flowers

Are you on Lansoprazole? - the much better prescribed medication of esamoprazole that you get over the counter

I have to take it every morning to reduce stomach acid as I've had stomach surgery

It's bloody brilliant - I immediately notice if I don't take it as I get awful acid when I eat anything

I also have arthritis - it SUCKS BIG HAIRY BALLS Thanks

RampantIvy · 28/11/2021 08:19

Ditto the Lansoprazole recommendation. DH has had gastric surgery and notices if he misses just one dose.

Yeah, im on lansoprazole.

I eventually managed to drop off propped up but I'm paying for it today with my back!

Ask for esomeprazole - it’s basically Nexium but you can get double the strength prescribed that you can buy - I take 40mg long term and it’s changed my life. (I take a lot of painkillers and life long steroids for various autoimmune issues).

LaurieFairyCake · 28/11/2021 08:30

Up your dose of it with consultation with your GP - at the beginning I had to take 2 x 30mg doses a day

It may be just for a few weeks you need more to get it under control

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/11/2021 08:34

Yeah I'll speak to the GP about upping my dose. I have an appointment with them on the 10th anyway regarding my digestive issues (EDS causes a lot of digestive issues and I really need to get them under control) that was the earliest available appointment so I'll just have to manage until then.

Have you tried a wedge pillow? Much more comfy than propping yourself up on lots of different pillows, they come down to your waist so may be better for the back? Just Google anti reflux wedge pillow, I got one for £40 and it's really comfy actually.

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/11/2021 10:17

I do have a wedge pillow but I use it to raise my legs, it's quite small so doesn't really fit under my back. I'll have to look for a larger one I think.

I got this one.

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/11/2021 11:02

That looks fab, and just what I jeed thank you. (Added to my amazon basket ready for when I get my pip)

Hope you slept better last night! I was awake with a baby at 3 and I thought of you. Brew here is to a better week this week!

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/11/2021 12:09

I was up at 4 but managed to drift off again. No reflux last night which was better

Rather than prop yourself up with pillows can you raise the head of your bed so that the mattress is slanted downwards?

HerRoyalHappiness · 29/11/2021 12:18

I can certainly try. I dont know why I didn't think of that, I used to raise the cot mattress when my kids were little and they were struggling with snotty noses etc.

DH is on 2 x 30mg Lansoprazole. He also has a wedge pillow, and has it under the head end of his mattress (we have a superking sized bed with two single mattresses that zip together).

I hope you get some relief. EDS sucks, as does reflux Flowers
