I don't shop in Lidl that often but was in there today and think I'm going to have to shop there more it's such good value can't believe how much I got compared to our usual ocado /.m and s.

Anyway not sure if it's a new thing but they have these £1.50.boxes at the till of a mix of fruit and veg. I got 3 carrots, couple of onions, an aubergine, some potatoes, quite a few small red onions, 2 peppers, a fresh chilli, 2 apples, 2 plums, 2 bananas and 2 tangerines. £1.50!

Really pleased with that!

I love those boxes, you can look inside at ours and see if you can use it too. Quite rare at mine though to have them available. Enjoy!

Yes ours were the open type boxes and there were 5-6 and the cashier said take your pick so I chose the one I thought we would use the most

What kind of days or times do they tend to be there?

There must be a huge difference in price between a Lidl shop and your normal outlets OP.

I got one today- 2 punnets finest black grapes, 1 punnet red grapes, 2 bunches large bananas, 3 large bags apples & a pack of leeks. Which is basically our packed lunches fruit for the week sorted, for £1.50!

Yes just a bit! We spend alot of money a month on food but that includes a weekly shop, a top up shop, all meat from the butcher's, a weekly organic veg box and milk, bread, eggs and juice from the milkman. I'm.aware we are incredibly fortunate though to be able to do this.

Some of their stuff is great, some of it is.. not Ocado. But shop with discretion and it’s good.

RedSnail · 27/11/2021 20:33

I see these but don’t know how to buy them as they are after the till. Do you say you want one before you’ve looked at what is in them?

TurquoiseDragon · 27/11/2021 20:33

My cousin told me about these boxes, so will try and go early one morning and see what they have at my local store.

upsidedoo · 27/11/2021 20:36

I know! I see them after I've done my shop which is a bit too late as I'd have to back in and join the queue! Why don't they put them near the entrance or something?

Because customers will swap the contents or add more bits from the fruit and veg aisle.

At my branch, they put the boxes out at 8am on certain days of the week.

RedSnail · 27/11/2021 20:43

I want to buy one but I think I’d have to buy just the box. Then go round again. As otherwise how would I know what fruit and veg I’m getting in the box and what extra I need to buy!

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 27/11/2021 20:54

Mine was just at the till so you could sort of glance over when they were scanning your things

I have a love hate relationship with the boxes. I'm embarrassed to put the celery and grapes I've bought back, but want the discount so end up with too much. The position AFTER till makes it awkward to peruse, buy and limit what else you buy based upon it. It creates a "waste less here, but take home more and potentially waste there" scenario, or, at my poorest leaves me queuing with nothing , looking over the boxes and humiliated buying just it in the hope I can make something out of it!

YogaLite · 27/11/2021 20:57

If I see something big/heavy outside I take a photo of the code, then say at the till I want that, they use the code at the checkout and I pick up the item/s on the way out.

Often they will know the codes for outside items anyway.
