How is Storm Arwen affecting you?

So far, I’ve had 3 power cuts which is not good as I’m trying to do a load of washing, plus I have tropical fish that need the heat, and a spider who needs bright light

Currently very windy and wet outside. Also cold

Can I make a claim for the most embarrassing consequence of Storm Arwen?
We went to the seaside to see the fearsome waves. I have alopecia and wear a gorgeous (and expensive) wig. For the first time ever, the wind was strong enough to make me fear that it was going to take a little ride in the sky, so I pulled my hood up and all was well -- for a while. But when we headed back towards the car, the wind was full in my face so I had to admit defeat and whisk my wig off, relying on my hood to disguise the situation. Having nowhere else to put my wig, I shoved it down my trousers (where it had a nicely warming effect on the ladygarden zone).

But, alas! When I got to the car, I realised that it was gone! There followed 15 minutes of me scuttling around in the gale, holding my hood in place, and looking frantically for my £££ wig in all the manky dog-poo crevices of the carpark and surrounding fields.

No luck. Got back in the car, dismayed and poor. Then had a final rummage down me trousers and realised that the wig had burrowed right down to my wellington-booted ankle to escape the storm. Blush

It has been a successful test of the repair to out roof that has been leaking since a botch job back in August. 2nd roofer completed on Thursday and not a drop has come through so I'm bloody delighted right now!

We are staying in as it's cold ,wet and windy.
Just about to try and stop front door banging !

I’ve been away for ten days and was due to be travelling back home to Edinburgh tomorrow. Now I’m stuck in London till at least tomorrow, maybe Monday, with a suitcase full of dirty clothes feeling a bit fed up …

Random789 omg! at least you can look back and laugh at your temp merkin adventure!

OtherPlans · 27/11/2021 16:07

Are there any estimates as to when it will pass?. My neighbour's shed is swaying.

howdoibegintodeal · 27/11/2021 16:09

Family in Aberdeenshire have just hit 24 hours no power, no landline phones, no heating and no hot water… they’re sitting in the car to warm up every so often .

GrealishHairband · 27/11/2021 16:11

We’re several roof tiles down, leaving a big chunk of roof exposed to the (snow) elements. We’ve definitely got off pretty lightly though compared to some around us.

bigbluebus · 27/11/2021 16:15

Power went off at 10pm last night. Estimated time to restore it 12.00 midday tomorrow. And we're only in a yellow warning area. No heating and starting to get dark again now. It's going to be a fun night - not.

It keeps blowing the cover off my patio furniture despite trying to pin it down with all sorts. Neighbour's gazebo took off and ended up down the road and someone else's trampoline flew onto the nature reserve next door.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/11/2021 16:17

Two huge fences down, one tree down, bird table smashed, outdoor light broken, tv aerial might come down. Neighbours have lost a lot of roof tiles but think we are ok so far. It's still pretty windy here (NE) and lots of big trees and fences are down but power holding so far.

Helpstopthepain · 27/11/2021 16:18

I had to chase my bin when I got in from work last night but just been for a really refreshing hike! We haven’t been hit too badly.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/11/2021 16:30

I’m midlands based and have lost my husband.
He had to set off in the early hours of the morning to the very top end of Scotland to carry out repair work on roofs.

Hen2018 · 27/11/2021 16:34

2 fence panels down and 2 tiles off the roof. (We’re very high up).

Lots of trees down locally, including one in neighbour’s garden. Power cuts in all surrounding villages but somehow not ours.

Local trains cancelled and numerous road closures.

Simonjt · 27/11/2021 16:37

We’re in a little cabin/hut in North Wales, no electric since the early hours, but we have our camper van (so we can cook, charge things etc) and the cabin has a wood fueled stove, so nice and warm.

Its very very windy, we were going to see some friends who are fairly local, but we turned back as there were so many road closures. So instead we went down to the farm (cabin is on a farm), saw the lambs, cows and alpaca in the sheds and were able to go in with the alpacas, picked our own eggs from the chickens. We’ve had a small amount of snow, so my son enjoyed that. Now we’re back in the cabin, my son is in zombie mode watching the lion king on the ipad, husband is having a nap with the dog, I’m being an internet zombie.

So while not as planned, we’re still enjoying our little break.

LowlandLucky · 27/11/2021 16:42

The sea is wild, lots of debris washed up so had an interesting walk on the beach. Our house is normally buffeted from the West or North but of course it was from the North east and battered the back garden, only lost one flower pot.

derxa · 27/11/2021 16:43

Tree fell over the main road and landed on sheep fence. My fencer will clear the branches and mend the fence. £100 Could have been worse. A driver could have been killed.

StephieSlade · 27/11/2021 16:43

Thankfully I decided to leave Heather in the field last night 😲😲😲!

Oh wow! Lucky Heather indeed! Grin

Minniem2020 · 27/11/2021 16:53

NE here, we're 2 fences down and it's still really windy. I've been working all day so haven't had chance to go outside and try and clear up a bit. I also can't see much out of the windows from the dirt that has been blasted against them

Isseywith3witchycats · 27/11/2021 16:54

not me but my sons house a tree at the side of their house has blown down and blocked the back luckily it didnt go through the patio doors or kitchen window

LIZS · 27/11/2021 16:56

In SE. We're a fence panel and lightweight greenhouse down so far but the wind is far worse now than it was earlier so suspect will find more tomorrow.

bengalcat · 27/11/2021 16:58

Getting a bit windy in London

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 27/11/2021 16:58
