Prices for clothes second hand

I've been invited to the local what's app second hand group. A bit shocked at the state of clothes and worn shoes that people are trying to sell rather then give away. Normally I pass all my wearable stuff on to my godchildren as it seems a bit cheeky to ask for money for worn clothes and boots.

However, I bought what I thought was a nice winter coat and paid 50. DC2 refused point blank to wear it. Couldn't take it back as we got ill and I missed the return period. It is unworn and still has the label on it. How much would you ask for it?

£50 for a child’s second-hand winter coat seems a huge amount to pay. How old is the child? Is it a designer make? I wouldn’t expect to pay more than about £10.

Coat is size 8-9. And completely unworn with labels still attached. People are asking 10- 15 for used winter boots and 20 for obviously worn winter coats.

Try Vinted. Search the brand on there.

I think £25. People still want a bargain , otherwise they may as well go and buy a new one from the shop themselves. Stay firm on your price though and don't take lower offers.

I would suggest £20 and mention it is unworn and originally £50. Tbh in a months time you will be able to get coats on sale in shops for less than that.

I’m also surprised at people selling obviously worn children’s clothes and shoes. I think they should be given away. Do people really buy hand me downs?

Wow £50 for a coat? Even with labels that's steep. Get yourself onto vinted, absolutely brilliant app, I've bought and sold lots on there, some great bargains to be had. Its a buyers market though.

I think 25.00 is reasonable.If its designer you will get higher, certain brands always get snapped up.

It wasn’t originally 50. The second-hand price was 50.

Not sure I could get passed the refusal to wear it. If it's a school coat, cost that much and is just a bloody coat.

What is it that makes it unwearable? Could that be addressed instead?

OP I recently sold a pair of brand new still in box trainers on Facebook. I paid £50 although RRP was £80. I sold them almost instantly for £30.

Op if I miss the returns window I always just take it back an say I've lost the receipt?! They'll usually give u store credit!!

It's the first thing she has ever refused outright to wear. She wore her old coat until it was far too small and then her brothers scruffy old coat and still refused to wear the new one 🤷‍♀️ It's too small now. It was too pretty

Yes. Exactly. I'd have donated it it, but our local charity has too many clothes and isn't accepting any more.

Ooof! That has to have been difficult to get your head round.

If your charity shops are full and you give up trying to sell it try any other charitable organisation.

I work in a non Trussel food bank and we occasionally get asked if we can pass nearly new clothes on. We send them to our closest refuge.

You might find something local that does the same.
