Omaze House Draws

So I was thinking of buying a ticket.
It's for a good cause - Cancer Research.
But, when you look at the small print it seems that they only expect to sell 500K worth of tickets for a prize worth 3.5M.
so, how does that make them any money?
Is it not what it seems?

Hope it's okay to ask - I am NOT implying that it's a con as it is for Cancer Research. I realise buying a ticket means the chances of winning are teeeeeny. But the houses look so amazing I don't see how they make enough money? Perhaps I'm being dim - I can be quite dim Grin

Isn't the £500k the amount the charity gets? The rest covers the cost of the house, staging and profit.

I know there was some criticism because people have won houses that had issues, such as being on flood plains or close to eroding cliffs. Perhaps they snap up properties that would otherwise be a tough sell, and then advertise them as being ‘worth’ the original selling price.

I entered for the London House, obviously didn't win.
I was surprised to see that if you do win you absolutely have to do the publicity.
On top of that in the film of the winner being presented with her prize she was surprised outside her own house!
So no privacy for the winner at all. It put me off from entering again. Not that I would ever have to face this terrible "problem" of course.
