Instagram romance scammers

I know I was stupid to answer the random man who messaged me yesterday- in truth I do this partly as an inbuilt inability to ignore people and partly as I want to see quite how far they take their lies. He said he was from the USA but currently working as an army doctor in Syria - as they all are - yet he didn't know it was Thanksgiving and that we in the UK don't celebrate it as a rule. Today he asked me my profession and then if I was retired. I said no, I'm only 39 years old so he replied with a - bloody cheek! Then he asked for a picture and I refused as I already have my profile picture. He proceeded to tell me that I looked more advanced than that in my picture which is why he had asked! Honestly it is an unusual romance tactic to tell a woman you think she looks over 20 years older than she is isn't it?! Anyone else had random men say rubbish to them like this on Instagram?

Every so often I do! My ex husband is a Nigerian man and I am on good terms with his family, we are Facebook friends and I am not entirely sure if they know that we have divorced. It's just nice to share family pictures etc but a couple of years ago I accepted lots of friend requests from men thinking they were friends of the family. Not long before they started sending me message requests and a lot of asking for help to obtain a visa to the UK! One actually asked me for help to pay 6 months rent . Ex husband told me not to be silly and stop accepting random men which I did. It's a real shame actually as having been to Nigeria a few times and living in a community with a large Nigerian population I know these men aren't totally representative of them but they do their country a massive disservice.
