On 4 a day for an infected epidermoid cyst. I leave them on my bedside table so I can take my first of the day when I get up for a wee at 4am or whatever, but last night I got up twice and in my sleep fuddled state took a pill both times.

Will I be ok? Should I only take two more today or three more as usual?

I'm a bit health anxietyish so please reassure me!

No one can really advise without knowing the mg dosage

Fuckinellitsme · 26/11/2021 07:23

Sorry, it's 500mg

Well you're still alive to make a post. Ring your GP for reassurance.

I would just take 2 more so your overall daily dosage is the same

converseandjeans · 26/11/2021 07:27

I would also just take 2 more today to keep dosage same.

GoodnightGrandma · 26/11/2021 07:27

It will be fine.
I got my antibiotics late in the day one time, but still took the 4 doses prescribed.
Ring the chemist at 9am fir reassurance.

Good point!

I don't want to bother them unnecessarily but if I may have to. Like I said, health anxiety. I feel so stupid, I'm usually so careful with medication!

Don't call your gp, call the pharmacy for advice

SheWoreYellow · 26/11/2021 07:29

I would think either carrying on as usual with the three or missing one today will be absolutely fine, but ask the pharmacist at your chemist if you’re worrying about it.

Fuckinellitsme · 26/11/2021 07:30

Thanks for all the reassurance. Yes, I'll just take two doses today and if I feel ropey at all I'll call the GP.

There was about an hour and a half between each dose so I didn't actually take them together, so that's something at least!

OP posts:
Sidge · 26/11/2021 07:30

It’s fine. You need 4 in 24 hours, ideally spaced out every 4-6 hours but it’s not going to harm you if you have 2 doses closer together.

You don’t need to call your GP.

(I’m a NP for clarity)

GoodnightGrandma · 26/11/2021 07:34

Please don’t call the GP surgery, it’s pharmacy advice for this,

kimlo · 26/11/2021 07:37

it'll be fine. I've just been on 2 500 4 times a day. I would just space the other 3 out today.

But speak to a pharmasist if you are concerned.

Fuckinellitsme · 26/11/2021 07:42

Got it, pharmacist if I need advice! I didn't want to bother the GP so that's good.

Thanks again for all the reassurance Flowers

Most likely you'll get diarrhoea...

AltitudeCheck · 26/11/2021 08:11

Pharmacist here. Either of the options you've suggested would be safe and well within the maximum doses used.

If you're already several days into the course of antibiotics I'd treat the two you've taken this morning as doses 1 and 2 for today and take doses 3 and 4 at the normal times.

This is so reassuring, thank you.

Today is the penultimate day of the course so I'll do as you suggest.

Thank you again Flowers

Really don't waste your GPs time. Nothing is going to happen to you.

SophieJo · 18/12/2021 17:47

Just wondering how you are getting on.
I also have an infected epidermoid cyst on my stomach. Am on second course of antibiotics but doesn’t seem to be having any effect. It’s sore, red, inflamed and hot. How is yours?

XingMing · 18/12/2021 18:12

@SophieJo, if it's your second course and not working, then it might be a plan to ask your GP to do a swab to check you don't have an MRSA bug. I had four courses recently and it wasn't until the fifth that the infection was quashed. Clarithromycin did the trick but it took almost three months to get there.

SophieJo · 03/01/2022 13:35

Had it excised and drained just before Christmas. GP referred me as it was obviously badly infected.
