Which iPhone

Yes I know I should probably switch to Samsung but I've an Apple watch and children have iPhones so I'm sticking to Apple for now.

I desperately need a new one, should I go as high up as I can afford, is the 12 a lot better than the 11 or do I get an SE or is that too cheap?

I need sim only

Also in the same predicament. I'm planning to buy a refurbished one but not yet sure which model. I currently have a 6s so anything will be newer than that but not sure what's best. I will keep it a long time until apps start to not update (as is the case with my 6s now) but not sure which to get.

Palosverdesblue · 26/11/2021 21:26

I bought an 11 with the biggest memory recently, I figured that would do enough for me and I'd rather have memory than most of the other gimmicks. Old phone was an 8+ which did everything I needed it to but it was a few years old and DD needed a new one so she got my 8+.

EileenGC · 26/11/2021 21:27

I have the 7 currently and plan on getting SE next, I like the size. But maybe by the time mine does, I'll change my mind...

I'm the same with and 6 at the moment, it's hardly got any memory which is a pain! Too much choice

I’m currently using an iPhone 6 which I have had for 6 years. I need to replace it and will keep the replacement for at least 5 years. Because Apple only support phones for about 5 years and apps stop getting updates after that I’m going to get the 13. The 13 also has much better battery performance than the 11 or 12 and it’s not that much more expensive

FFSAllTheGoodNamesAreGone · 26/11/2021 21:38

I have the 12 mini. I love it. Perfect size, very similar to the 6 I think. Good storage and it takes brilliant pictures. X

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 26/11/2021 22:04

I have the 11 pro max love it best thing I ever bought

Divorced2kids · 26/11/2021 22:07

Ive got the 13 pro max - changed this week. Its brilliant.

friedeggandsauce · 26/11/2021 22:16

@CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby and @Divorced2kids what is the difference with the pro max bit?

I got an SE because I liked the size but with loads of memory.

I also have a new 12 I’m slightly missing the Touch ID and I’m not convinced by the Face ID.

@LittleBearPad I like the price of the SE! Seems a better choice as £600+ seems so much money on a phone!!!

I've just bought a refurbed XR from Giff Gaff to replace my refurbed iPhone 7 that I've had for 3 years. I was reading reviews comparing the XR to the 11 and decided I could live with the XR.
Only issue I'm having is moving over to the XR from the 7. I tried transferring everything by Bluetooth as the XR recommended. Whilst it was great it copied my settings, wifi password etc, it got stuck on 7 mins remaining for 90 mins so I gave up and reset the XR back to factory settings.
Have now tried doing it manually through my laptop. Most things have transferred over but I need to go through every app and log back in. It shouldn't be this hard.

Bobbybobbins · 26/11/2021 22:34

I had a refurbed 6 but needed a replacement so got a refurbed 8 - couldn't afford to go any higher and happy with it

stayignorant · 26/11/2021 22:41

I've just upgraded to a 12 from 11 and I wish I'd stuck with the 11.. it's much more attractive imo and the battery life is better. The display on the 12 is superior and apparently has a faster RAM (not something I've noticed tbh) but those are the main differences between the 2 and that's why the battery drains faster. The 12 has flatter edges a bit like the 4 whereas the 11 has rounded edges and for me was more comfortable to hold. I don't think it's worth the extra money for the 12.. I wouldn't get an older one than the 11 though. I only upgraded as the screen was cracked!
**@CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby* and @Divorced2kids* what is the difference with the pro max bit?
I think the 'pro' is the better camera (there's 3 on the back rather than 2) and the 'max' is the phone size, it's a lot bigger than the normal size.

pinkpanther84 · 26/11/2021 22:55

I've just upgraded from an iPhone 7 to the SE, I haven't found any issues with it at all and it was a good price. Would recommend!

Divorced2kids · 26/11/2021 23:32

Yes its the size. It feels like a mini Ipad 😂

SoniaFouler · 27/11/2021 00:48

DO NOT GET THE SE

I CANT WARN YOU ENOUGH

You will have to charge it AT LEAST once per day, I have to charge mine two or three times per day, and my battery health is still currently 95%. God knows what it’s going to be like at 80% or worse

I was on a call for just under half an hour and my battery went from 90% to 55% by the time I hung up. And it’s not an issue with my phone or battery because I had it checked out with Apple twice and they said it was fine. I asked if it was normal then for Apple to be now selling phones with this kind of battery drain and they just couldn’t answer. This is with background app refresh switched off permanently to try and salvage power.

If battery life is important to you do not, I repeat, do not buy this phone, you will thank me, I only wish someone had warned me

The only thing I will say in its favour that if you get the super fast charger then it does charge very quickly. But for a brand new (ish) phone, I don’t expect it to be in the 90% range when I go to sleep and 60-70% when I wake up, when I’m NOT EVEN DOING ANYTHING ON IT Angry

Enrosadira · 27/11/2021 00:54

I agree about the SE and the battery. I like the shaoe and everything but battery is crap.

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 27/11/2021 06:59

I changed from a 6yo. iPhone 6 to the SE and love it.

My old 6 battery just wouldn’t hold a charge so the SE battery is so much better. Mostly, it lasts all day and I charge it overnight. If I’m in the phone all day I’ll have to Dona quick top up, but that’s no hardship and not unexpected.

I like the size. I’ve gone for the 128gb memory. Seemed very good value for money to me.

ChangingStates · 27/11/2021 07:12

I had the 7 for ages and recently upgraded to the 12 mini- it's great, love the camera. Have mixed feelings about Face ID though, it's great having a small phone with no button as screen size is maximised, but I miss the button- Face ID is a pain in the arse especially when mask wearing. Suggest you think about whether you prefer face or fingerprint and do the newer SE if the latter.

friedeggandsauce · 27/11/2021 08:45

@SoniaFouler thanks for this. I'm currently charging nearly all the time so would like a phone that actually held its charge!!!

I went from the original SE to the 12 Pro.
I had battery problems with the SE and decided to get the batter replaced, they found it was a manufacturing fault and replaced my phone! (With a new original SE)

I went for the 12 Pro for the camera. I like it but I find the size a huge jump from the SE. I can't use it one handed as I can't reach the other side of the screen and I find it really annoying when out and about. It is a lovely phone though. Face ID is really annoying as it doesn't recognise you wearing a mask.
