Just wondering how long it took everyone to get back into their pre pregnancy clothes. I'm 3 months and absolutely none of mine fit I've had to go out and buy all new clothes. Will they ever fit again or should I just throw them out Sad

I left hospital in my pre pregnancy clothes with all mine but obviously my stomach wasn't exactly as it was. I felt it really took 4 months to get it toned again. I'm still a size 8 but actually found that I wanted to buy new clothes anyway as there had obviously been subtle changes all over my body that made me not as comfortable in my old clothes as before pregnancy. I do think I was lucky. I think most people feel they need 9 months to a year.

PiesNotGuys · 25/11/2021 23:41

I was never out of them, I wore the same jeans pre pregnancy, during pregnancy, and post pregnancy. I lost weight being pregnant, it was very hard physically for me, but my belly went down instantly and I have zero explanation as to why. Age, perhaps? I had my dc in my twenties.

I’m still a size bigger now with primary and teen dc than I was pre dc, but I’m 15 years older so maybe it’s that.

I certainly wouldn’t be worried at 3 months pp, 3 years maybe. If you want to get some clothes you feel comfortable in, there’s nothing wrong with that. Maybe go for less tailored styles that will fit a small range of sizes so you can feel confident in the short term and they will fit in the long term?

About a year with dc1.
I mean, depends on the clothes of course - some things fit tighter than others at any time.

Mid 20s. Stupid fingers.

DC is nearly 11 months and I’m half a dress size too big for my old clothes. I’m about 4kg off my pre pregnancy weight but I wasn’t one of those people where the weight dropped off when breastfeeding - I’m still feeding him so wonder if the last bit will come off when I eventually stop, or if it’s now actually just Bourbon biscuit weight.

Xiaoxiong · 26/11/2021 00:07

Never. Even when lower than pre pregnancy weight. My hips widened and never went back, and boobs changed shape. DS1 is 10 this year!

DressingGown · 26/11/2021 00:08

DC1 - was lighter than I started out within a few weeks with zero effort on my part. DC2 - at least 3 years’ slog to shift weight post-pregnancy... but just about getting there now. Weight is driven by so many things other than the “eat less, move more” crap we beat ourselves with - not least hormones. Please try not to worry about it. Congratulations Flowers

Coming up to 2 years, still wouldn't fit into them. I was a size 4-6 (UK) with a bmi of 16, completely unhealthy for a 20 year old. I put on 4.5 stones in pregnancy, I love lost about 3. In at the healthiest I've been and couldn't be more thankful.

You may have your own curious reasons for asking this OP, but I promise you, you're beautiful the way you are right now. Embrace and enjoy motherhood 💓

Changechangychange · 26/11/2021 00:42

I was in pre-pregnancy clothes when I left hospital (had been in for 8 weeks and lost a lot of weight, plus DS was a very hungry baby and I lost shedloads BFing him.

I then put 10kg on when I went back to work, and I no longer had any spare time to go to the gym or go for a run. And haven’t lost it 4 years later. So there is that.

MrsAvocet · 26/11/2021 00:45

First baby, 6 weeks.
Second baby, about 6 months.
3rd baby, nearly 16 years, but I got there in the end!

BookFiend4Life · 26/11/2021 03:20

I would get new clothes, not because I don't think you'll lose the weight, but because you deserve to be comfortable and feel pretty right now! And when you eventually do lose the weight won't you want new things that are on trend and in style then rather than now? Be kind to yourself :)

21 years and still not a chance...Grin

LostInTheColonies · 26/11/2021 04:08

Two weeks. However, in the 12 years since then I've put on 3 stone Grin. I was told that BF would magically make weight vanish. It's a lie.

bizboz · 26/11/2021 04:11

First one about 3 months. Second one, I didn't lose the weight until after I stopped breastfeeding at 18 months.

Noluthando · 26/11/2021 04:32

I put my clothes in a vacuum bag in the loft 10 years ago when I got pregnant. I've just got them out as I've recently lost weight and some of them fit, some are still too small. Some of the trousers are boot cut and wider leg and I'm not sure if they are fashionable now ? My body shape has also changed in that time, bumps in different places ! I will never go back to how I was but I wouldn't want to. I'm now lucky to be a mum of two great kids :-)

Agree that BF weight loss is a lie. I put on 20kg and lost 5kg so far, 4m postpartum.
Crikeycroc · 26/11/2021 04:50

3 weeks, but for various reasons I didn’t gain very much weight at all during pregnancy which is not healthy. Baby was small and didn’t grow as much as expected after 32 weeks gestation.
Don’t beat yourself up. 12 weeks postpartum is nothing and you’re probably exhausted. Try and have easy healthy snacks on hand so you don’t eat as much junk. Are you gaining weight now? I put on 6kg in the four months after I gave birth because I was breastfeeding and desperately craving sugar.

TheFairyCaravan · 26/11/2021 05:28

2 weeks with DS1 and 2 days with DS2. I didn’t put on a lot of weight , it was all baby. After DS2 was born BF made me drop so much weight. I’’m thin anyway, but I was so very thin when I was feeding him.

4amstarts · 26/11/2021 05:34

2 weeks - I breastfed twins

MrsTimRiggins · 26/11/2021 05:36

Well, my little boy is three weeks old today and I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans yesterday. They fit a little differently now but still look nice. I did suffer badly with HG throughout my pregnancy tho, so ‘only’ gained 1.5 stone and my son was nearly 10lb of that.
I don’t think it matters a jot really tho, you’ve done an incredible thing by bringing your baby into the world, please don’t pressure yourself into losing weight when you really only ought to be enjoying spending time with your little person x

Afreshstart2021 · 26/11/2021 05:43

Dc1 took six months to get back into pre maternity jeans. About a year to get back to roughly normal, but my rib cage and pelvis were wider (and still are).
Dc2 I am almost back to pre pregnancy weight at 5 weeks, still a bit of a tummy of course. I think the difference is that with dc1 I mainly used formula, whereas with dc2 am exclusively breastfeeding.
Your shape might never fully go back, but with healthy eating the weight should mainly go. Three months is nothing and it varies from person to person.

Seaweedhair · 26/11/2021 06:09

Some of the weight clung on while Bfing so 9 months but my skinny jeans never did up properly again and tbh my pre pregnancy clothes didn't look or feel right pp. Took me about 18 months to find my new style, actually quite liberating to reinvent myself (after emotionally getting over saying goodbye to all the super tight stuff I used to wear)

Kinsters · 26/11/2021 06:27

Three months before I could just about squeeze into my jeans. More like 9 months before I was back at pre-pregnancy size though.

SpeckledFrogsLog · 26/11/2021 06:33

Still working on it. DS is nearly 18 Grin
