Can anyone advise about parking in York please?

We're visiting York tomorrow on the way to a weekend in North Yorkshire. I use a mobility scooter so park and ride wouldn't be possible, but I do have a blue badge which theoretically makes parking easier, if I can find a space!

We want to visit the Christmas market and have a little pootle round M&S, so we'd like to park not too far from these. Can anyone advise which car park would be most accessible for me, or a road where I might park with my badge, so I can add some postcodes to the sat nav? Thanks Smile

This may help: www.york.gov.uk/york-city-centre/city-centre-disabled-access/1#:~:text=City%20centre%20disabled%20access%201%20Blue%20Badge%20parking,keys%20for%20disabled%20toilets.%20...%207%20Also%20see

I was going to suggest one of the park and rides but then I saw that you have a blue badge so this website may help.

There aren't really any that are very convenient. They are all a bit of a trek.
I'd try either
Foss Bank car park (YO31 7PL) if you drive all the way around to the right, they have disabled spaces and its all under cover.
Marygate car park (YO30 7DT) is all outside, but there are quite a few disabled spots near the entrance and its a nice trip through the museum gardens to get through to where the shops are

Castle Car Park (right next to Cliffords Tower) is very central and has a massive number of disabled spaces. The non-disabled spaces are teeny tiny, but I assume that the disabled spaces are an appropriate size.

It's open air so should be accessible, no stairs etc. and as close to town as you can park I should think.

@ColinTheKoala thank you, I will have a look at that!

You can actually book a car parking spot. Google it. We did it a few years ago.

Foss bank is the cheapest
There is also one on stonebow and one on piccadilly that are close enough the market
Then there's the Q park at the barbican

Thank you everyone you've all been very helpful, I will have a look at all your recommendations and add the postcodes to the satnav! Thanks

I don't know if it will be different this year due to Covid but it's very very crowded between the Xmas stalls it was a total crush Did it once never again
Can't advise on parking as we use the park and ride

TreaslakeandBack · 25/11/2021 15:15

We paid £7 this weekend to book a car parking space via JustPark. It was Piccadilly so quite close to the centre.

TreaslakeandBack · 25/11/2021 15:17

It was crazy busy though, not sure I would go again on a weekend close to Christmas.

Loughrigg77 · 25/11/2021 15:24

Castle or St George's Fields car parks are a good bet, and there is a multi storey on Piccadilly (Coppergate?). It will be really busy with the Christmas Market so I'd get there as early as you can (although Friday might be better than a weekend)

honestlywhy · 25/11/2021 15:27

I've pre booked parking when I go in a couple of weeks.

IntemperateSpirits · 25/11/2021 15:42

Parkopedia website has all the info.

PerfectlyUnsuitable · 25/11/2021 15:48

Yep I can confirm that the Christmas market was extremely busy last weekend!
