Prolonged bleeding and ovary pain

Hello. Just to clarify that I do have a doctors appointment on Friday, but wanted to see if anyone has had anything similar.

39 years old, no kids, definitely not pregnant.
Three weeks I started spotting - not unheard for me but this seemed much more then normal, along with a brownish discharge (sorry for TMI) for a few days too. This was accompanied by a sharp, almost tugging pain over where I imagine my right ovary would be.
Then my period started properly about a week but it is much, much heavier then it normally is with big clots and more pain - especially at night. Very tired and keep going light headed - assume from the blood loss - appetite OK, but also seem to have either constipation or have diarrhoea - it seems to change from day to day. It's costing me a fortune in sanitary products and loo roll!
Anyone had similar and what was the outcome?

I experienced this in my 20s. I'd get horrendously long, heavy periods (longest was 13 weeks!) and it turned out to be PCOS.

I have this quite regularly, with the spotting and brown discharge inbetween periods alongside ovary pain and like pp have pcos.

@IncorrigibleTitmouse 13 weeks??? That sounds horrendous. Hope you don't suffer as much now?

Yes experienced exactly the same and it was a uterine polyp. That was 2 years ago and it's happening again so I'm waiting on a scan as it's probably regrown. Although scan didn't pick it up last time, hysteroscopy did and it was removed at the same time.

Hi @Toty, I was wondering if could be that. How long did you have to wait for the hysterocopy?

@Lostpuzzlepiece

I honestly can't remember but it wasn't a quick process and I expect it'll be even longer now . Referral for scan and gynaecology then a further wait for procedure. You can get tranexamic acid to reduce the bleeding meanwhile.
