Nintendo switch- where do I start?!

DD13 has asked for one for Christmas and I think I'll oblige.

Where do I start?! Will I be able to buy from somewhere with points or cash back? I don't know anything about it neither! What games could I get her? She loves Minecraft.

I've never spent money on a big gift like this - I don't know where to start!!

They are selling out very quickly and stock is limited so you need to act fast. The new OLED version is in low supply and the older version also. Check everywhere, both consoles are very good and there isn’t much to choose between the new and the older version, especially if you’re a newby. Animal crossing game is A MUST as that is the all time game of the moment and amazing for all ages! Minecraft is good on it too but not as good as on the iPad or PC, depends really on what you already have. Big thumbs up from us on Switch console though…we have four of them!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Have a look on the Mnet Christmas board bargain thread, it's on number 23: the one with the massage gin. Loads of people are posting switch & Black Friday deals.

Another vote for Breath of the Wild. It’s a lovely game. You could also get MarioKart which is really fun on the switch and you can play with other people.

LittleEsme · 24/11/2021 20:14

What's the difference between a switch and an OLED?

I'm getting twitchy though. Don't want to lose out and not get anything!

I got a switch lite recently. If you get it from the my Nintendo online store you can save 10% if you know anyone with student discount.

They are also doing bundles where you get a console, game and accessory at a reduced price.

Also they're doing a Black Friday sale on the digital games - so you don't get a physical chip to put in the device but can save about £10 per game depending what You're buying.

Orangeteddy · 24/11/2021 23:41

If you’ve got any Nectar points you could put it towards purchasing it at Argos. As others have said, keep a close eye on stock though as it’s in & out at the moment

Shamoo · 24/11/2021 23:48

Animal Crossing and Mario Kart would be my recommendation - my nieces love them both.

Soupsetforson · 25/11/2021 17:34

Please could someone talk me through, in words of one syllable what we will need to play mario kart as a family of 4
So far I’ve bought the switch with the game.
How many extra controllers would we need?
The steering wheel controllers?

Welcometothejingles · 26/11/2021 12:21

@Soupsetforson post your q on the Christmas bargain thread no 24 on the Christmas thread. Lots of posters who are buying switches and very knowledgeable about consoles.

WakingInSnowyWoods · 26/11/2021 13:13

I agree re. Zelda, Breath of the Wild (have a look at online reviews).
I got my Switch for Christmas two years ago and have been playing BoTW ever since. I have actually completed the game once but because it's so vast and varied there are many minor things I still haven't done.
It's given me a huge amount of pleasure.

LittleEsme · 27/11/2021 09:42

Thank you! Buying it today
