I’m looking to move to Milton Keynes, specifically Oldbrook. What’s the area like? I really like Milton Keynes but don’t know it well enough to make the decision about a move. Thank you everyone in advance xxx

MK is generally a really great place to be, but it has its problem areas like everywhere. Oldbrook and the blocks immediately around it have pretty much the highest crime rates in the town (including violent crimes). Is there a particular reason you're looking at oldbrook?

Areas close to the city are not that nice, some parts of Oldbrook are ok. .
Are you buying or renting?
Do you have a budget ?

Hi thanks for replying :)

It’s a family members home and they are moving country but keeping the house and have offered for us to live there only paying upkeep, small contribution and any other bills. This will be a lot cheaper for us and it just seems like a good offer in general to pass up. But unsure about it now if it’s a rough area :( It’s in Applegate to be specific.

Anecdotally, you could be absolutely fine. We lived in one of the less nice areas for a couple of years without bother when DS was a baby. But there were still cars and shops being broken into, places being graffiti, tower blocks being set on fire by the residents etc. The schools weren't great either. We were fine, but we moved and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else necessarily.

If it's a relative, are you able to talk to them about their experience living there? I can definitely see that it's a tempting prospect, but I'd check out the schools (if you have kids) and maybe research the area a bit before agreeing to anything.
