How much do you pay your chimney sweep?

If you have one!
I had no idea what they charged, ours came today while I was at work. I don’t actually know how much ours charge, just one fireplace. Not sure how many variables there are with a fireplace!
Dh told me what he thought it would be, I will find out for sure when he gets home.
If you don’t have a fireplace or a chimney that needs sweeping, how much would you guess? Don’t look at anyone else’s answers!!

£55 open fire x 1

JazzTheDog · 23/11/2021 16:50

We were £65 which included service of the wood burner (new glass, rope and fire bricks). We'll be an additional £45 for the new baffle plate when it comes and he spent a good 2 hours doing the job.

Mabelface · 23/11/2021 16:50

I send the kids up, although it's a bit problematic now they've grown, so it'll be around £60 to have it done professionally.

I certainly wouldn’t pay someone to maintain a stove. The doors etc come off so can be cleaned in the garden. It’s easy to cut new firebricks as needed (just buy a sheet then use the old firebricks as a template). All replacement parts can be bought online.

Hen2018 · 23/11/2021 16:58

New glass is replaced easily (a few screws). Rope is about £2 a metre and you just scrape the old rope out and use heat proof glue to stick the new stuff in. I hate seeing people get ripped off.

TheChosenTwo · 23/11/2021 16:58

The results are in…. He charged £65 and dh chucked him another tenner on top as he apparently did a nice job with the cleaning!

So, seems ours is an absolute bargain at £30! Our is an external stack with a external access point so he doesn’t come into the house.

Might be why it's cheaper - doesn't need to worry about being tidy or use the hoover thingy.

Ours charges £45 per chimney. Doesn't matter it it's open or wood burner. North West. There's lots of competition.

DoncasterHombre · 23/11/2021 17:26

You lot are mad - why are you paying anything at all? Have you not read "The Water Babies"?

crimsonlake · 23/11/2021 17:38

Having mine done this week and they are charging £95 to sweep one chimney.
They have a good reputation but I was shocked at the price!
Previously I think I was charged in the region of £50 by another company, but they allowed some soot to escape so I was definitely not going to use them again.

QuattroFormaggi · 23/11/2021 17:48

Mine is £60 - log burner + external flue on 2 storey house.

I usually do most DIY stuff myself. However my sweep is a registered/accredited business which means if I had a fire and it was linked to the stove/chimney then my insurance will cover it. Also, not having it swept professionally every year invalidates my 10yr stove warranty. The horror stories about chimney fires and CO poisoning makes me think £60 is worthwhile!

OriginalLilibet · 23/11/2021 18:07

£90 for 3 in the Midlands. I believe it’s £50 for 1, £75 for 2.

We tried to coax DS up it with some chocolate buttons but the neighbours mentioned that might be frowned upon now.
TreeLawney · 23/11/2021 18:41

Ours is £40 which is a total bargain. He’s brilliant. Have to book ages in advance though.

ponkydonkey · 23/11/2021 18:43

Open fire here! £65

BonnyandPoppy · 23/11/2021 18:46

£50 here and he cleans the log burner and glass as well. We have an external chimney but he comes in to do the log burner. Fully accredited and we get a certificate that it’s been done

34.99 (Midlands)

bigbluebus · 23/11/2021 18:50

I've just paid £60 for one open fireplace. I had to wait 6 weeks for him to come as he was booked up.

Henlie · 23/11/2021 18:53

2 x large open fires - £90 (normally £50 each, but slightly saving for two).
It takes him around 1-1.5hrs to sweep them. No mess whatsoever.
We’re in the South East.

mayblossominapril · 23/11/2021 18:56

I bought myself a set of rods and a brush 10 years ago for 25 quid and I sweep it myself

WTF475878237NC · 23/11/2021 18:57

£55 not in London.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 23/11/2021 18:59

Should add my guy will also do fire bricks so much cheaper than buying online or fire supplier as prices have really rocketed in the past few years, he also checks and replaces the ropes, no charge or any other repairs such as sealing/replacing the fire cement.

Those that are waiting for weeks, just book to get it done in the summer rather than wait until the autumn/winter.
