How much do you pay your chimney sweep?

If you have one!
I had no idea what they charged, ours came today while I was at work. I don’t actually know how much ours charge, just one fireplace. Not sure how many variables there are with a fireplace!
Dh told me what he thought it would be, I will find out for sure when he gets home.
If you don’t have a fireplace or a chimney that needs sweeping, how much would you guess? Don’t look at anyone else’s answers!!

We have a log burning stove with a liner in our living room and get it swept every year in August. It costs us £50, our chimney sweep is very OTT and likes to inspect our soot Shock. He cleans the stove, glass and grate while he is here as well. It usually takes him about 45 mins.

Appin · 23/11/2021 16:23

We paid £60 last month for our annual sweep

BoneIdleBitch · 23/11/2021 16:23

A shilling

Just paid £45

Pootles34 · 23/11/2021 16:25

£60 plus vat. She's great - pointed out signs we weren't burning it hot enough, advised on how to make it less polluting, etc., and cleaned the glass much better than I ever can!

Finknottlesnewt · 23/11/2021 16:25

£50 a chimney. Yesterday.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 23/11/2021 16:27

£45 this year as we just got the one done; last year he did two and it was £80. He takes the metal hoods off the wall for easier access and gives them a clean too. Obviously he leaves no mess # it’s not like olden times!

Hen2018 · 23/11/2021 16:27

I do it myself (I disconnect the stove then it’s just a straight run of liner).

We didn’t have central heating until this year so the stove was the only heating in the house.

AnnaMagnani · 23/11/2021 16:28

Before we had a birdguard in there was an extra fee per bird's nest. Our record was 6 nests - photos made it on to his website.

MorganSeventh · 23/11/2021 16:28

I pay £90 for two

lightand · 23/11/2021 16:28

My husband bought brushes and does it himself.

GertietheGherkin · 23/11/2021 16:29

We paid £68 at the end of September.

MintyGreenDream · 23/11/2021 16:30

50 quid

TheSpanishApartment · 23/11/2021 16:31

Just had it done - 45 pounds here.

littlefaith · 23/11/2021 16:31

£75 for service and clean of woodburner and swep of chimney

clpsmum · 23/11/2021 16:31

Ha'penny

MintJulia · 23/11/2021 16:33

£65 for one flue. Log burner is awkward to dismantle.

pizzaobsessed · 23/11/2021 16:33

£60 for a log burner. Ours is booked for early December

TheChosenTwo · 23/11/2021 16:36

Okay, most of you are paying roughly what I expected, something in the region of £50-60.
Dh thought he usually paid around £100, I thought that seemed like a lot considering he’s there less than an hour but I honestly didn’t really have a clue!
He’s not back yet, taking a dc for their jab, I’ll report back what he paid when he gets back.
It’s an open fire, not a log burner, I wonder if this makes a difference to the price? All kinds of things I’d never really thought about to be honest, including someone who charged per birds nest?!

£60 each for a simple open fireplace & a solid fuel stove, including checking the stove is in good order.

lunar1 · 23/11/2021 16:37

£65 for a log burner, they clean the glass as well and use a camera to check the flue.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 23/11/2021 16:37

Multi fuel, cleaned and checked over in the summer, he is very careful and checks everything inc the carbon monoxide alarm and air flow in the room etc.and we get a certificate as well (dont know what difference it makes, from the regulator/master guild of sweeps or something) £45, takes about an hour, hes an ex fireman so does a through job.

Hetyanni · 23/11/2021 16:37

£65 (London)

TheDogsMother · 23/11/2021 16:45

£45 which sounds like a bit of a bargain compared to some here. He spends about an hour on it so is very thorough too.
