Using Elf on the Shelf to snitch on Santa?

DS10 (year 6) still believes in Father Christmas. In other ways he is wise beyond his years and hugely cynical but he still believes, and always asks FC for something expensive and difficult to find Hmm
I wondered if he might stop believing this year, so when discussing his Christmas list I just spoke about what we could buy him and what he might buy with money from relatives. Without prompting he has again written to FC asking for a big present, but when I said "do you think Elfie will come this year?" he just shrugged and said "I don't know, I don't really care".
I want to tell him FC isn't real before secondary school, although I won't do it before Christmas, but I'm now wondering if I can use his attitude towards the elf as a way to hint about FC.
I'm thinking no Elf on 1st December but a gift and some form of letter saying "You're old enough now so I don't need to visit you anymore" and hinting that FC might stop coming too?
Has anyone done anything similar?
