How much in savings do you think you need to retire in the UK, to live reasonably. I'm not talking about foreign holidays, expensive meals out etc. And don't take state pension into account.

They produced figures recently- including the state pension £10k for a basic standard of living £20k for moderate £40k for higher end and obviously more for luxurious. This assumes you own a house outright I think. The state pension is £9k so if you have the same again in private you can enjoy a moderate standard of living which I think included a car and a U.K. holiday annually.

I have my state pension and 2 small pensions of £100 per month each.

I live alone (no pets even), own my house outright and am comfortable.

I run a car and can afford an annual (cheapish) holiday but I don't go out all that much. I do drink a fair bit of wine at home though.

How much you need in savings is dependant on how much your private pension will be.....I’m nHS so my pension and lump sum will be ok as will my partners who is local council employee.... we do have savings but think we would manage ok until our state pensions kicked in....however our savings will mean we can buy new car....holidays etc and be ok until we are eligible for a state pension.
It really is dependant on your private / works pension
