Patients attending A & E daily

There's a small number of people who attend every day. Highlighted in the daily telegraph today

There was one at our local hospital who would do this a couple of years ago over the course of a month upon discharge he would walk to the bridge over the dual carriageway and threaten to jump. Three Times in a month traffic stopped for hours I guess he was treated because it stopped. It's worrying that people feel a pharmacy GP cannot help so it's hospital or death

I'm guessing quite a lot of these cases might be elderly people who are having lots of falls and the carers ring an ambulance because the rules are that they can't lift them?

Vast majority have mental health conditions, mental health services (like other services) have been cut to the bone, whilst demand has rocketed.

And really, is it not more about unmet need than difficult patients? How about blaming austerity and cuts not individuals???

Way back 20ish years ago, I was slapped with this label after a few months of several-times-weekly A&E visits for a medical problem for which I was struggling to access care. Once I had got the support I needed, I never needed to go to A&E again. But that was back when waiting lists were generally reasonably and manageable and responsive to emergencies. I darent even google how long I would be waiting if I was in the same situation today.

This is very clearly to do with failings in care.

If someone with MH issues is turning up all the time, then they are not receiving the support and treatment they need.

Like a pp mentioned, people with physical conditions that are going untreated will turn up frequently.

Plus the elderly who are living in unsuitable and dangerous situations due to the lack of help available. They aren’t helped into appropriate living situations until there is an accident.

We are a shit country. The A&E situation can’t be blamed on individuals.
