Hi,

Has anyones child ever had an assessment from a specialist teacher - communication team.
My child had a Developmental language disorder and auditory processing difficulties.

Can you tell me whats involved in the assessment? What are they looking for?

My child just had a salt assessment by a speech and language therapist and now going to have an assessment from a specialist teacher. I don't know why as wouldn't a speech and language therapist be sufficient?

Is it not just them observing for a while and assessing strengths and difficulties to see if they can then advise the school on things they might try ?

Can you tell us a bit more? SLT here and a mainstream school might have a communication specialist teacher who might help adapt the curriculum or maybe DC is in or being considered for a language unit? What stage is you DC at?

I find it a bit unusual that a specialist teacher will now do an assessment?
Surely if a salt has just assessed child , then why would a specialist teacher be carrying out an assessment straight after ? The ehcp has also been issued

The Specialist Teachers I know are dyslexia specialists. Maybe looking at strategies to help with reading and writing on top of the oral communication strategies from the SALT?
