Fruit Flies come out only when I roast vegetables

I recently had a fruit fly infestation and found that they were nesting in the tracks of the sliding door. I have since removed the nest and have had all my windows cleaned. I never see any flies anymore that is until I cook. I have all my drains closed all the time even the shower drain so they can't be nesting there. I usually cook about once a week and I roast broccoli which stinks up the whole house. Usually 5 or so come out when I cook. Could they be coming from outside? I had the pesticide company come out twice and they said my place was so clean and I was doing all the right things, they don't know where they could be coming from. I have a Katchy machine so that usually catches them after a few days. But not being able to eat every time I cook is frustrating. I can't imagine where they are coming from.

Weird. Even though you've had pest control in, I'd still recommend setting up a couple of shallow dishes of apple juice, with a dash of washing up liquid added. If there's still any fruit flies hiding somewhere, they'll find the traps. I would do it now, even if you think there's no flies.

If you are cooking, do you have the sink plug open? They can live in there.
I too would set up traps and keep repeating that until you are fly free.

Following this ax I had some, set up the apple cider vinegar and washing up liquid traps but still get the odd one. I too don't know where this odd one keeps coming from. Anyone know how you get rid of them if they are in the drain? (Sorry, don't mean to jump on your thread)

I have two Katchy machines to catch them. They work because eventually the machines catch them. But it’s frustrating every time I cook they appear.

Nope the drains are closed:(. I have cleaned the drains and covered all of them.
I make sure they are always covered

Have I misunderstood or are you saying you don’t eat if there are flys in the house? This and a couple of other things you’ve said are a bit worrying really. Have you experienced a lot of stress recently?

On a practical note, vinegar traps tend to attract and kill them very quickly. Certainly more like hours than days.

I really have no desire to eat but I eat and cover my food while I eat. No stress in my life except the flies...lol. The flies are creating my stress because I am super clean and have a bug phobia:)

Ok I am pretty sure I found out where they are coming from..yay!!! So I cooked the other day and about two hours later they started appearing again. So the next day I was looking out the window of my office and noticed about 7 fruit flies inside the screen but behind the window. So I started checking all the windows and seems like they can fit through the screens because are so small. So my analysis was right that they smell the food from the outside and try to come in through my windows. So although most make it past the screen mrs don't make it in. But it seems like a few are finding there way in from the window, usually 5-6 each time I cook. So I did some testing and put a citronella candle by the window when there were 7 on the screen, and they all disappeared. I also tried placing an incense by the window, and this seem to make them go away as well. So I started to put citronella on the window screens and so far so good, no fruit flies on the window screens. Hopefully this fixes it!!!
