Hi.. bringing my teenagers to York in early December and thought I would book somewhere for lunch as I expect it to be busy with xmas markets

Dc1 has parosmia ( result of covid in the summer) so really struggles with smells of hot food .

Are there any experts on York who could recommend either a restaurant with one of those outside eating areas ( preferably with outdoor heating) or a very airy restaurant.

..

thors tipi is in the principal hotel gardens and is a heated tipi thing, there's Japanese food there and is really nice, not that long a walk from town center either

I would head to Sparx, a complex of shipping containers that are a mix of retail and eateries. It’s uber cool and teenagers love it there. You can eat in a covered outdoor area and order through the Deliveroo app. Lots of choice and different cuisines; Japanese, Thai, burgers, wood fired pizzas etc.
Alternatively Sora/Sky bar at Malmaison York, eat outside on the roof terrace, sushi and small plates on the menu (the spicy “kfc” cauliflower is amazing!) the view of York and the Minster is just as incredible as the food. Phone ahead if there’s no availability online.
You could always go for afternoon tea at The Grand hotel or Betty’s if you don’t mind the mammoth queue!
Enjoy Smile

Seconding Sparx quirky, good food and ambiance, bar, fresh air. If deliveroo not working just order direct from the venues. Yes Sora for a smarter/treat experience but not snooty - can be very windy though but lovely views

Lucia is lovely and has lots of outdoor seating with heat lamps and blankets!

Ask in York is in a beautiful old airy high ceiling building called the grand assembly rooms. It may suit you perfectly. It is on Blake Street and lots of photos on Google so you can check it out in advance.

Ate O’Clock has an outdoor covered courtyard. It’s not flashy at all but the food is great and it’s always full to bursting.

Hiya,

Does anyone know anything about Kindercare nursery, Heworth? I'm thinking of sending my son there and keen to hear what it's like as I haven't been able to visit yet due to living far away.

Thanks :)
