Is my child's drawing good for their age?

DS is 4 (nearly 5) and he's always drawing. I obviously think they are brilliant but I'm his mum so I would. Just wondering if he's skilled for his age or if I'm seeing it through PFB lenses. I think I'm just amazed because I can't draw at all. Grin

He spends ages watching How to Draw videos and then does them over and over again from memory. So I'm not sure it's really how he's perceiving things if you see what I mean.

They are lovely drawings.

One of my children has drawn both the cat and cone by watching YouTube drawing tutorial videos where they are taught step by step. Then they recreate them without watching the tutorials.
My DC wouldn’t be able to draw a different animal in a similar way, just the ones they have watched.

Very good drawings! I would get him some nice pens or paints or something to encourage him. Maybe a draw along book.

CatonMat · 21/11/2021 03:32

The cat is bloody great!

Rno3gfr · 21/11/2021 03:32

That’s brilliant! I have friends in their 20s that can’t draw in such detail haha. You should definitely nurture it.

@Soupsetforson

I think they are fab! My 9 year old has just given me these which I thought were good but imagine what yours could be producing with another 5 years practise!
Wow,amazing!

I am all for showing off your childs non academic skills. This government completely ignores art etc.it is a crying shame.so go on,make MN an art friendly site for your kids, who's skills are not really valued under the current school system.

These drawings are showing the attempt at scale and the detail is very impressive - he's a great artist in the making!

@CheeGee he’s very talented and, having seen many, many children’s art, unusual in how good he is.

Ignore the arsey posters, keep being proud of his flair, motivation and skill.

Have you got any art presents planned for Christmas for him?

Sometimes museums and galleries have local artists running workshops for kids giving them experience of using different mediums etc.
Perhaps he might like that one day? My artistic child enjoyed taking a sketchbook with her everywhere, would he like a travel art set that he could use out and about? Smile

This thread is a year old. Do you have any recent artwork, done by your now almost 6 year old, to show us OP?

ranyBoskie · 29/11/2022 10:18

Cam22 · 29/11/2022 15:00

Lovely and definitely much better than the average for that age. I love that cat!
