Is my child's drawing good for their age?

DS is 4 (nearly 5) and he's always drawing. I obviously think they are brilliant but I'm his mum so I would. Just wondering if he's skilled for his age or if I'm seeing it through PFB lenses. I think I'm just amazed because I can't draw at all. Grin

They are really good.

My daughter drew really well, like that at that age and is an amazing artist now at age 7, much better than me!
You may have already, but get him some intricate colouring books, some quality paper pads, good colouring pencils, drawing pencils and drawing pens.

(My son is your son's age and can do nothing anywhere like as good as that! He can't really draw anything recognisable.)

CheeGee · 20/11/2021 18:28

*whether he is talented for his age as I have nothing to compare it to. And I'm naturally going to think he's brilliant. Grin He is my PFB after all. Wink

Thanks @rebeccaCloud9 for the tips. It's lovely to hear that your DD is still interested in her artwork too

Does he paint or enjoy other art too? My brother was doing extraordinarily intricate paintings as a preschooler and he is an artist now.

Ddraigmawr · 20/11/2021 20:33

I love the cat! So much character and detail

All very good for a 4 year old

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 20/11/2021 21:20

Don't be so miserable @makelovenotpetrol

There are posts out all sorts so why not this? Let people enjoy things. It's lovely and parents are allowed to be proud of their children

@CheeGee your son is really talented! I especially love his ice cream cone Grin you should ask him to colour it and then get a little frame for the wall!!

lnsufficientFuns · 20/11/2021 21:23

My son drew like this at 5 and I remember all the teachers in the family being really blown away. Detail and realism makes for some fab drawings!

Your son is definitely talented

Heruka · 20/11/2021 21:25

These are excellent!!

ImFree2doasiwant · 20/11/2021 21:25

Much better than my almost 5 Yr old.

hoomama · 20/11/2021 21:31

Yes that's amazing for a 4 year old!

My Daughter is 4 and can (just about) draw a head with some stick legs and arms!!

Lowri84 · 20/11/2021 21:48

I'm a Primary School Teacher, and those are really good for a 4 year old👍

Soupsetforson · 20/11/2021 21:57

I think they are fab!
My 9 year old has just given me these which I thought were good but imagine what yours could be producing with another 5 years practise!

Really good!

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2021 22:04

Much better than mine. I'm
40!

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/11/2021 22:04

Really good. Love the cat Grin

Cowpad · 20/11/2021 22:11

These drawings are absolutely fantastic for his age.he is hugely talented!

WheekestLink · 20/11/2021 22:41

Excellent! I don't like comparing children's abilities but his drawing skills are really good.

Nuffaluff · 20/11/2021 22:49

Yes, they are extremely good. Particularly the cat. It’s not so much the detail, but the attempt to draw the cat in 3D with the legs. Trying to draw what can actually be seen rather than what he thinks is there. That is very advanced.

Nuffaluff · 20/11/2021 22:50

One of the legs looks a little bit like, ahem, something else though, or is that just me?

Phoenix76 · 20/11/2021 23:03

They’re actually exceptional for his age. Does he go to nursery or another child care setting? Only asking as ime this would definitely be mentioned by them. I’m genuinely impressed! I hope he has an artist’s pad or something 😊

Mojoj · 20/11/2021 23:12

Bloody brilliant 👏 👌

Bimblybomeyelash · 20/11/2021 23:17

The bin lorry is great! Really imaginative! I think my 5 year old has drawn an identical ice cream picture, he too is a fan of ‘how to draw..’ videos on your tube. They have been very good for his drawing skills, he’s a
Much better artist than his older
Brother.

MissCreeAnt · 20/11/2021 23:26

I normally roll my eyes at these threads but I can't at this one. Really unusual for 4, I think. He's perceiving what's in front of him differently to how a 4 year old typically would.

MushMonster · 20/11/2021 23:31

Really good for a 4 year old.
Get him some watercolours and so on.
There is actually watercolour pencils, they are great.
I would try to get him into a club or similar, if there is any nearby.

StillMedusa · 21/11/2021 00:17

Fab drawings and definitely veryvery good for his age.
Get him decent pens/pencils/paints... and get showing him other artists work .. everything from classical art to cartoon strips so that he learns how great art is!
One of mine was very good, and while he hasn't made a career of it, he still draws ..he's a musician and did his own art work for his last music release :D
