Marriage/Wedding documentary late 1990s or early 2000s

Has anyone got an amazing memory and can remember a fly on the wall documentary series following couples before and during their wedding day?

It was pre ‘don’t tell the bride’ and the couples were filmed discussing their forthcoming marriage and were also filmed throughout their wedding day- preparing for the day, the ceremony and reception.

It was either late 1990s or early 2000s!

Thank you!

I’ve searched but can’t remember what it was called!

I remembered that one @Philandbill when I read the reference to him going on a rugby trip with his ex.
I think there was a 90's version too, I remember a couple from Liverpool, she was a lot younger than him and he was planning to have his vasectomy reversed. But I could be misremembering.

I’ve just been looking at that one, yes, it’s too early. This one was definitely between late 1990s and early 2000s.

I’m going to say before 2005. I can’t remember the exact year which is really annoying!

Ah! Were there later episodes too?
I remember there being a few episodes featuring different couples - all filmed around the same time and put out together as a series.

There's an American documentary/film made by a wedding photographer...112 weddings or something I think it's called.

TopTabby · 20/11/2021 14:07

Gosh I might remember this, did the opening credits have a bride shouting "Brad, you're me brother ain't ya?"
Definitely remember watching this, it followed several different couples from different backgrounds. I'd say late 90s.

There was a show on what I think used to be call Living (or sky living?) called Four Weddings from memory which was a bit like that?

home2012 · 20/11/2021 14:20

There was one on bbc called "wedding stories". It was brilliant.

Yes! She was the babysitter!

Better computation. I loved this show

FourTeaFallOut · 20/11/2021 14:30

Was there one with a presenter who was originally cabin crew in an airport documentary?

Horsemad · 20/11/2021 16:07

I remember this - the Liverpool couple and she'd been the babysitter. There was another couple from Essex or somewhere and when she was in the car with her Dad going to the church, she was swearing practically non stop!

SunShinesBrightly · 20/11/2021 16:12

I’m working my way through the suggestions!
Lulu - I’m starting with your link!

The series I’m thinking about featured someone I knew years ago. They’re nit around anymore so I can’t ask them and I can’t remember details! It’s very annoying!

Yes this is the one I remember. I can't recall the name but it was on in 1999 - I remember watching enthusiastically as I was getting married in 2000 and devoured anything about weddings! I think there were two update series to show how the couples were getting on. One refused to participate further. The Liverpool couple (she was called Linda and I was surprised that they had a full Catholic do since he was divorced though now our own PM has done it I understand there is some technical criteria that allows this) had the vasectomy reversal but she wasn't pregnant at least by the 2nd update. There was also a very posh sweary hooray henrietta type bride. That marriage barely lasted a year and she was with someone else in the updates.

There was another couple who were a bit rough. Outside the register office after the ceremony the bride was agitated asking if there was a car to get her mum and dad to the reception. The groom bawled at her "Shut yer mouf!" It was awful - moments after their wedded life had begun - but that clip was at the beginning of every single episode!

Yes! That was it! 🙂
Philandbill · 20/11/2021 17:45

There was another one with three couples, one couple were richer, one couple had a wedding list full of Eternal Beau (bow???) crockery and household items and a third couple were very eco (and lovely) and were asking for trees on their wedding list as they were planting a wood. Or perhaps someone else has already referenced this programme upthread? I'd love to know if anyone else remembers this one.

TheYellowOne · 20/11/2021 20:57

I remember a show around that time, about couples getting married, the theme tune was sung by Su Pollard of Hi-De-Hi fame, and the opening lyrics were "We're starting together...". Can't remember the name though.

TheYellowOne · 20/11/2021 21:00

Ignore me - I see it was from The Marriage which has already been suggested.

Roystonv · 20/11/2021 21:05

I think I remember a very poor couple and him having to wash his shirt in the sink running out of soap powder and no washing machine alongside a wealthier couple. Was only thinking about this recently and the disparity between them

dayswithaY · 20/11/2021 22:40

This one was a young couple, they got married at a registry office and she had a big white dress. I remember him washing his shirt in the bath, too.

I believe that was a 40 Minutes documentary, just a one off. I think her name was Julie as several years later I wondered if Sacha Baron Cohen got the idea for Ali G from this programme as the lad referred to his wife as "me Julie".
