Helix piercing - anyone know anything?

I have a query that I hope someone may be able to answer.

DD has a helix piercing (has had for years, well healed and no issues)

As part of her Christmas stocking, I'd like to get her a new earring for it.

I've been looking on Etsy but have confused the life out of myself. First, I have a choice of 6mm or 8mm. I assume this is the length of the post, yes? Hers is an outer helix do I assume she doesn't need the post to be so long as the ear is thinner there, but not sure.

Also, if it's a stud rather than a hoop, does it need a flat back?

Finally, if anyone has any top tips of small sellers that make amazing jewellery of this sort, please could you share?

Thank you 🙂

Can you measure one she already has?

I always have 6mm for my helix 8 is way too long on me and catches on my hair all the time

I’d just make sure it’s specifically for helix piercings. I have one and ordered some hoops intending to change them around. I found that the posts were thicker than my helix ones and so wouldn’t go in.

Great advice, thanks all.
Where do you usually buy yours?

6mm is fine and yes it has to have a flat back. You want to get an internally threaded one as they're easier to put in. Rings are a bad idea for helix piercings (and other cartilage) as they can piss off even really long since pierced holes.

It's a good idea to choose titanium to ensure that they won't irritate piercings.

I like this seller on Etsy;
