Care homes in 25 years time?

Just visited an ex-neighbour in her care home and the music they always play in the background in the lounge are 1940/50s tunes and I was wondering what they'll be playing in 2046?

I'm imagining a Clash, Jam, Duran Duran, Siouxie and the Banshees medley

I imagine they'll play Adele, James Blunt, Ed Sheeran, things like that. Got to be "easy listening", to keep everyone happy and calm.

The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, were all in my era (70s)

And mine, and I'll be 80ish in 2046 so likely to be in there listening to Now that's what I Call Music 1

They will still be playing wartime music I imagine ,they were twenty odd years ago when I worked in them
My parents are both 80 in a few months they were three when the war ended ,they wouldn't appreciate war time music ,they were young in the 60,s

I hope they don’t play any music in my future care home, that would be torture for me.

Eh?! The dementia home I went to recently was 60’s/70’s, early 80’s for their music and movement time!

I will be DEMANDING a tea time rave, complete with glow sticks.

My mum has dementia and lives in a care home and whilst they do play plenty of music from the 1950s, they also music from the 60s and 70s. I am never sure whether it is because residents with early Alzheimer's would have been in their 20s in the 1970s or whether the staff just think that music from the 70s is old!

There won't be care homes in the same way we have them now in 25 years time.

Technology in this area is moving at a rate of knots. We already have nursing beds that can do the regular turning to prevent pressure sores which will reduce the need to have two members staff attending to someone every 2-4 hours during the day. The upcoming generations of oldies will be much more willing to use smart technology to e.g. turn lights on and off, order shopping, prepare food, call for help, take part in video calls, monitor health conditions etc.

Research into Alzheimer's/dementia drugs will progress

Public policy / society will hopefully move on so that people in their 50s and 60s properly start considering their long term living arrangements alongside their pensions/retirement plans for the next 10/20 years.

People will be working harder for longer, with worse health, and antibiotic resistance and will probably die younger from other health problems before dementia gets them instead.

We play music from the 50's onwards but like pp mentioned, it's all pretty settled and calm stuff no punk rock 🤣 not in the public areas anyways, in the same way we wouldn't be showing The Exorcist in a public room, though whatever people want on in their rooms is up to the individual - as long as it doesn't make the windows rattle 😉

I imagine when I'm of that age it'll be endless re-runs of Friends on the floating TV, Twilight and Harry Potter will be 'old movies' and we'll have Take That and the like on a radio loop 🙂

If they’re playing 40s tunes, then the pay must be appealing to centenarians. My mums in her 80s and I’d say 60/70s is her era.

We will want cafes, wifi, gyms the lot. Can you imagine how different they might be? I want techno and garage playing in mine please!

I keep thinking now is the time to set up a care home I would like to be in.

Which is why they might as well smoke, eat junk food, and be merry whilst they can. And then go to Dignitas.

Have people not heard of luxury retirement villages? They're amazing, more like luxury hotels.

Absolutely the opposite! Far too many older adults in properties they own which are far too big for them and not suitable for adapted living.

We need more social housing, purpose built bungalows and proper extra care housing (NOT expensive corrupt retirement apartments) and an attitude that it's okay to up/downsize as and when required throughout life. We place far too much emphasis and status on property ownership in this country and it is a part of our undoing as far as social mobility is concerned.

Given average age of care home residents they really ought to be playing Elvis and the Beatles. If you were 20 in 1960 you’d be 81 now. My theory is that it’s something to do with how boomers can’t come to terms with being old.

Well some of my residents love a bit of lady gaga so we play everything from 40's right up to the latest top 10. I actually had an argument about it with someone that these people are capable of liking modern music. Depending on the mood will depend on what we play. Theyre human beings, they don't all love a que sara sara sing along

Well I have dropped an almighty clanger here..
We live near a care home and dc always say they wonder how far down the list I am-as in threatening to put me there.. . I am 50..told them I am looking forward to the peace and quiet.
So now they say they are keeping me at home so they can chatter on forever!!

And it is them telling me to turn my music down here!! So it's my tunes in my old age!!
Prob still be belting out Bryan Adams then too!!
