Help! Any orthodontists around please?

12 yo DS3 had an upper brace fixed on his top teeth for the first time on Wednesday. Obviously it's been difficult to get used to but he has been very careful to only eat soft food etc. however this evening he's been really struggling with the pain especially on the upper left side. I've had a good look and I feel like some of the brace is coming apart and there is a loose part. Isthere anyone around who knows about these things and what I could possibly do over the weekend to help him? Sod's law it happens on a Friday night. Our dentist is shut on Saturday

Hi there, not an orthodontist but had adult braces.
It looks like one of the brackets has come loose. What you can do is get braces wax (you can buy it in boots,-amazon or eBay) and put it over the loose part until you can get it sorted. You’ll need to replace the wax after eating meals. It’s a good idea to get a supply of wax in because sometimes after adjustments you can get poking ends of wire and the wax helps any discomfort.

You will need to ring the ortho on Monday to get it repaired, it’s an easy fix.

Another adult brace endurer! The wax is fantastic stuff, stops the hard edges cutting into the inside of the mouth.

Shouldn’t there be a wire through those front brackets?

Wire will go on front teeth when sides have adjusted. Use wax till dentist open on Monday

You can use babybel wax if you can't get any orthodontic stuff.

The pics aren't very clear, any chance you could get one with better lighting?

@SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit the wire isn't bendy enough to get into all the nooks and crannies yet, when things start to align those teeth will get added.

You can use wax like noted above. Or if you're feeling brave, sterilise some nail clippers and you can clip the wire infront of the broken one and pull the wire out the molar tooth bracket. I've had patients do this before and it's what we advise if it's causing a lot of discomfort. If no pain, wax is fine.
