Need ideas for DP's birthday end of January

It's DPs birthday at the end of January. Worst time of year weather wise but would like to book a short UK break. He had a crap birthday last year due to lockdown so would like to spoil him

It's just us, no kids. We live in the South East. We have a car but happy to do trains either. Would probably like a small town or city break. We love walking, pubs, restaurants. He's really into transport stuff - train museums and the like. Just getting away for a few days and a bit of spoiling ourselves is what I'm after but I'm struggling for ideas! Budget is negotiable, but definitely not luxury end

York has a brilliant train museum and is a lovely city. You can have afternoon tea there inside a fancy carriage.
Plus there are plenty of indoor things if the weather is shite.

😊 I have a late January birthday so understand the restrictions!
As well as York we went to Dublin for a weekend (the days of £20 flights) for a birthday and it was lovely and also not too cold (surprisingly!)

Thanks Stath. I grew up in Ireland and we will be there for Christmas! It is a great city for a short break
