Does anyone else pretend that they're on a cooking show when cooking?

That's just it really.

My favourites pretends are Australian Masterchef and being Nigella. I only do it inside my head, like.

Anyone?

Not before now, but I think I may give it a go Smile

Confiscatedpopit · 18/11/2021 17:26

I used to pretend I was on blue Peter or equivalent when doing art when I was young 😂 I don’t think it’s uncommon!

Periwinkletoes · 18/11/2021 17:27

I got a present of a day at a cookery school and what I enjoyed the most was having all the ingredients set out ready prepped in exactly the right amounts on my individual workstation. So inside my head there was a running commentary of me seamlessly presenting my recipe to the 'audience' as I prepared the dish. Someone else cleared away and washed up too.

Hahahaahaaa

Yes Blush

MyBiscuitspread · 18/11/2021 17:57

Blush yes. But only if the kitchen is nice and tidy Grin

Hate cooking when it's not and then I can't get "in the zone" and pretend I'm on TV.

Binglebong · 18/11/2021 17:57

Frequently. Particularly lines like "while this looks burnt the caramalisation really adds flavour" and "you don't need to be accurate with all sizes the same - different thicknesses add an interest of textures".

PeeAche · 18/11/2021 18:00

"This one is a family favourite"

And then the family come in and complain. 🙄

No, but I am a fashion model when I'm trying on new clothes. (I am not of fashion model proportions).

Eugenieonegin · 18/11/2021 18:13

All the time, we particularly enjoy saying “cooking doesn’t get tougher than this” as we slide ready meals into the microwave!

TangerineDreams · 18/11/2021 19:12

In a way. Whenever I cook all my ingredients are in their respective ramekins, bowls and plates ready to put in. (Mise en place) I don't like to need ti cut anything after I start my cooking if I can help it. It's a neat, tidy job like on the telly. I channel Nadiya rather than Nigella though.

TangerineDreams · 18/11/2021 19:12

Cut all my ingredients, not cook,

Mull · 18/11/2021 19:15

Oh my god, my sister did this ALL THE TIME when we were growing up. Full commentary to the ‘camera’ aka the splashback behind the hob! She’d end up making something rubbish because of adding “just a soupçon more cayenne” or similar HmmGrin

EllieSattler · 18/11/2021 19:16

I pretended I was on Bake Off today, sadly my scones were wonky as fuck and somewhat underbaked so I was sent home :(

slowtik · 18/11/2021 19:17

Bake off whenever I bake and master chef when doing something fancy (as in date nights in etc!) Grin. I have found my people!

slowtik · 18/11/2021 19:18

Oh and if I make a crumble I sing out loud..everybody's good at something but I'm good at cooking crumble Blush

WhatHoMarjorie · 18/11/2021 19:21

I like using Ina Garten-isms

'use the good vanilla'

'shop bought is fine' whilst implying shop bought is very much not fine.

'how easy is that?'

Kinneddar · 18/11/2021 19:23

When I was making my bed when I was a child I used to pretend I was the 'expert' on The Generation Game demonstrating to the contestants 🙈

StarryNightSparkles · 18/11/2021 19:43

I do this. If I am baking then obviously I am in the tent on my knees looking through the oven door glass. If I am cooking then I like to pretend I am hosting a cooking show. My delightful husband calls me Nigella whenever I am in the kitchen 🤗

If I am doing housework or driving then I am being interviewed by Graham Norton on his chat show.

This is how I a woman in her mid 40s spends her day 😂😳

StarryNightSparkles · 18/11/2021 19:44

Just to add when I am at work then obviously I am on the apprentice lol

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 18/11/2021 19:48

YES.... @WhatHoMarjorie ...there's a good deal of Ina here too!

I ask dh to "pass the good budder" and he always asks if I'd like the "kosher salt, the baaaaaaayzil or the ohREGono"

...I keep meaning to actually find out what kosher salt is and what the difference is!

NigellaSeed · 18/11/2021 19:49

I was on the sewing bee the other day. No it's worse, it was the celebrity seeing bee special. There are layers of delusion.

IhateBoswell · 18/11/2021 19:59

There are layers of delusion.

😂

Magnalux · 18/11/2021 20:10

Every single dinner..and if I’m baking... I’ve often wondered do others do this.. now I know!! I’m waiting to be discovered by a tv crew… but given this all goes on exclusively in my head I’ll not hold my breath!!

DedalusBloom · 18/11/2021 20:22

I do this all the time with virtually anything. Cooking, cleaning, crafting...

But the Barefoot Contessa memes always make me laugh...

Does anyone else pretend that they're on a cooking show when cooking?
Twospaniels · 18/11/2021 21:04

There’s a particular task I do at work that when I do it, I talk (in my head) as if I’m showing someone else how to do it, as if I’m passing the task to someone else
