Has anyone lost weight or toned up using the ring fit at all? I have just brought one!

Following! We have it but not used it yet. I’m still recovering from my csection but hoping to use this soon to get back in shape

iamio · 18/11/2021 12:47

@DigOlBick I had a c section 5 months ago hence me buying it 😂

Mine was 3 weeks ago and I still feel a little bit like my insides might fall out Grin

Is this that hula hoop thing?
You won't lose weight hula hooping. It might tone your abdominal muscles a bit but I doubt you'll notice anything tbh. Do it though, it will be fun and movement is good.

DigOlBick · 18/11/2021 13:15

@CloseYourEyesAndSee Bonita not a hula hoop it’s an exercise game for the Nintendo switch.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 18/11/2021 13:16

Ah ok
Still, my comment stands. You won't lose weight playing Nintendo switch exercise games but do it anyway as it's good for you

DigOlBick · 18/11/2021 13:18

What’s your reasoning behind that? I’ve lost plenty of weight doing Pilates and aerobics in the past which is what the games entail.

Of course you can, like anything if you're exercising in addition to eating a balanced diet you can lose weight. There's not some sort of biological fluke that says ah well those squats you have done were done playing a game on the Nintendo so they don't count.

OP if you play it consistently and push yourself (safely) then yes, it gives a variety of exercises and the game can be as fast paced as you like. I wasn't playing to lose weight but just to try and compensate a bit for doing less walking during lockdown; 30 mins a time a few days a week and it's just as good as any other sort of exercise class on YouTube etc.

To lose weight you need to be in caloric deficit. Doing workouts at home can burn calories but they won't lead to weight loss by themselves. Usually a session of Pilates or whatever won't burn a huge number of calories and people overestimate how many they have burnt so unless strictly tracking and following a plan weight loss will not be likely to happen. You need a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose a pound a week, which is pretty much impossible to achieve with Pilates unless you do several hours every day and never increase your food intake

citycitycity · 18/11/2021 13:24

There’s a subreddit dedicated to ringfit weight loss!

I bought one when I had tendonitis in my arm and the exercises really helped me - not what you’re asking though!

I think you can lose weight if you do it regularly, it’s a tough workout and it definitely made me sweat.

iamio · 18/11/2021 14:25

Thanks, I just did the first 2 levels which was about 15 mins of exercise- that was brutal, shows how unfit I am!

I got mine on Monday. As an unmotivated lazy exercise allergic person, I'm finding it helps.
At the point I'd normally slack off yesterday, not wanting to lose a life made me push myself harder.
I have no idea if it will help me loose weight, but its the most fun exercise I've had in a long time, its also getting me sweaty and goal orientated, there's a reason to continue. It must be doing me some good even if I can't see it.
Day 4 later today!

MephistophelesApprentice · 18/11/2021 14:35

Lost weight, body tone has improved, my body has never looked better. My confidence is through the roof.

@CloseYourEyesAndSee Of course you can lose weight through exercise! If your calorie intake remains the same and you exert more physical energy than you were doing before then you will lose weight. I’ve done it myself. I’m not sure why you’ve started talking about Pilates when the post was about a Nintendo exercise device.

Sure, but to burn enough to create enough deficit to lose noticeable weight you'd have to workout hours every day.
I didn't bring up Pilates, someone else did.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 18/11/2021 16:15

Following with interest because I bought it about a year ago but, um, never got round to actually playing it.

PaperMario · 18/05/2022 13:58

It's actually really effective for weight loss. From just playing 30 minutes a day some people have lost nearly 50lbs

PaperMario · 18/05/2022 14:00

It also gives you tips for a healthy diet.
