Gaming PC games

DS is getting a gaming PC for Christmas.

Do I need to buy any physical games on disk? Or are they all downloads now?

He plays things like Fortnite and Minecraft.

Any recommendations for games he might like?

Thanks

You won’t need to buy him games, but you can get him a voucher to the platform of his choice so he can download them. He’ll either use steam or the xbox PC game store, I imagine. Does he have a friend or sibling you can ask?

Or you can just sort it on Xmas day.

Hard copies aren’t a thing now, you just download them straight away

It's digital downloads now.

How old is he?

He's 11. As long as it's all digital, I can just sort it on Christmas Day and give him some money. Just didn't want to find out I needed an actual disk and he wouldn't be able to play til it arrived!

If it's on steam, you can buy the games and gift them to him, with a time set. I've done this for DP before. so we were opening presents, and his phone went off with notifications for the games that had just been gifted. But I actually bought them a few weeks before.

Also, Prime (if you have it) have some free games included.

And xbox have a games subscription which works for PCs as well.

Usually downloading games on Xmas day is a nightmare as everyone else is doing the same thing! Maybe get a couple of games on disk, or download them beforehand. Also, it would be a good idea to set up the PC so he can just switch it on and use it straight away.
