What was the best party bag your child ever received?

My 4 year old dd has her 5th birthday coming up and has specifically asked for party bags she can give out to her friends.

I wasn’t planning to do them as they are usually just full of cheap plastic rubbish, so I’m wondering if anyone is willing to share the best ideas your child has ever given or received.

DS's party is next weekend - if I get any letters of complaint or appalled parents fainting, I will come back and warn you to abort mission.

marypoppinsreturns · 19/11/2021 17:28

Ds party next month, since it will be December we are doing a selection box and bit of cake.

Some sweets, bit of cake, maybe some bubbles. Those snap bracelets are a good call if you can get them cheap - I've done Play-Doh and lego blind bags before as I got them in a huge deal for 50p each! Otherwise it is the above, maybe with a balloon.

In 12 years I couldn't tell you one specific thing my kids got in a party bag, and I doubt they could either. They would remember a book but not in a good way.

MarmitesMyMate · 19/11/2021 17:56

A toy story holograpic cup filled with sweets bubbles and a balloon. Nothing wasted.

CardiganAddict · 19/11/2021 17:58

We got novelty straws once in a party bag which ended up getting reused and reused even before it was a thing!

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 19/11/2021 18:07

Spy pens went down really well.

plumpudisnice · 19/11/2021 19:24

These with some sweets, chocolate, a pen and another small toy in

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 19/11/2021 20:44

The year before last I did personalised chocolate bars
Last year cupcakes in a box and a bottle of Nosecco with a metal straw

Bath bombs go down a treat. Kids love them and the best bit is they disappear! Then top up with loads of sweets and chocolates.

ParkheadParadise · 19/11/2021 21:20

I have a Christmas bauble you paint yourself
A yo-yo
Bubbles

mehface · 19/11/2021 22:54

I love a party bag

I did colour your own bags too, hits included were Slime, wind up toy, temporary tattoos and a mini squishy

Titsywoo · 19/11/2021 23:02

An easter egg at a March birthday party

fellrunner85 · 19/11/2021 23:03

I used to be That Parent who did crafty kits, baking kits, personalised seed bombs... then I realised I was being a dickhead Grin

Turns out sweetie cones go down a treat; still no plastic tat toys, but the kids actually like them. You can also be stupidly lazy and order them all ready made online, so all you do is hand them out. Voila, job done. Though you don't get to feel as worthy as you might do with wildflower seeds...

BobbieT1999 · 19/11/2021 23:08

Books...socks...crafts...

What happened to party bags that were just a balloon, fun-sized sweets, slice of cake and crappy toy/whistle? Hmm Grin

Gliderx · 20/11/2021 09:43

My DS has zero interest in wildflower seeds Grin. And we have a tiny garden that is already fully planted so I wouldn't thank you for them. Nor for giant sunflower seeds Confused.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/11/2021 10:14

@ToastieSnowy

A bag with a Mr Men book and a load sweets. Or if near Christmas a selection box.

This is exactly what we did for DS's 6th. He picked the Mr Men/Little Miss books for his friends, and I did colourful little striped paper bags full of sweets with "Thank you for coming to my party" stickers on them.

Selection boxes are a genius idea though.

Fifthtimelucky · 20/11/2021 11:24

I don't remember my children ever having received any particularly good ones.

The best ones I gave were china mugs. The party was at a farm park and the mugs had either sheep, cows or pigs on. I didn't put much in them if I recall, probably just a few sweets.

We still use the mugs my children had - over 15 years later so I hope some of the others are also still in use.

ANameChangeAgain · 20/11/2021 11:28

We used to give Easter Eggs as one of my DC's Birthday is close to Easter.
I used to try hard with a bit of cake, sweets and something to play with, but in reality all they are interested in is sweets / chocolate and cake! I learned to make life easier and oblige!

ParkheadParadise · 20/11/2021 12:37

I'm stealing the selection box idea for dd's party next month.

mehface · 20/11/2021 13:31

I was going to say those mini pop it fidget toys, but key ring ones might not be the right thing for little ones and most I can find start at £2, even on toys for one pound misleading website name really

A little canvas bag they can colour in themselves, a sweet cone.
A Harry Potter reusable plastic beaker with sweets inside.

Albern · 20/11/2021 14:50

@Albern my DS always struggles to blow up whoppee cushions it's like you need a straw, maybe they even come with one, but if it did it was lost in ten seconds.
