What was the best party bag your child ever received?

My 4 year old dd has her 5th birthday coming up and has specifically asked for party bags she can give out to her friends.

I wasn’t planning to do them as they are usually just full of cheap plastic rubbish, so I’m wondering if anyone is willing to share the best ideas your child has ever given or received.

Just a slice of cake and a few sweets. I hate the plastic rubbish that is perfectly sized for choking and just ends up in the bin.

Sweet cones

If not then cake and sweets.

The other stuff just goes into landfill.

Mine are older now and always liked bouncy balls and tiny spinning tops, they were used for years and I eventually rounded them up and sent them to charity shops.

Books from The Book People were a thumbs down, they always seemed to be ones they already had or weren't interested in, they preferred something you could get out and play with straight away.

One year we did bubble swords and those went down well. Big box from amazon, gave each kid one sword and a bag of sweets, it worked out quite cheap and was really easy.

I never had complaints in bang snaps… they appeared in other party bags afterwards but we are not a right on area. for those parents who were less impressed the kids made sure they did them in the car park before they were carted home 😂

Depends on the age group.
At 4 a plastic tea set that was played with for years: I think they had come from the pound shop originally but great for pretend play and bath time!
In year 2 a skipping rope. This is the age they are just learning and even the boys liked them: it set off a little craze at school.
I can't remember at what age: a ball on a rope thing with handles at both ends to shoot the ball to and fro. DC loved it and I had massive arms from doing it for 10 mins in every hour for weeks over the summer!

I really don’t want craft kits of any kind. Nothing worse than coming home from a party and being expected to do craft. Nope.
I did hair bobbles, hair clips, bubbles, Haribo, tiaras last time but obviously it was bit of a girly party. Went down well though

WakeUpLockie · 18/11/2021 14:15

One of those cups that’s like a snow globe (you know the ones? Double layer of plastic, filled with water and glitter?), cup filled with sweets. No plastic tat!! I recently did glow stars, party popper, bubbles and sweets in DS’s party bags (age 4).

MotherWol · 18/11/2021 14:33

For DD’s birthday party I’m planning to get a bundle of Lego/Playmobil figures from a secondhand store or boot sale, along with cake, sweets and stickers. That way it’s not new plastic, and it’s still a toy that kids will enjoy.

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/11/2021 14:37

Cake, sweets, bookmark and decorate your own photo frame kit in a pretty paper bag. That went down well.

Pallisers · 18/11/2021 14:39

a waterbottle with sweets in it. They used the water bottle for years.

FartNRoses · 18/11/2021 15:14

A bit boring but I put a toothbrush in my party bags (amongst the sweets and other bits and bobs)

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 18/11/2021 15:17

In my experience the kids just want to sweets so l always do sweet cones and no party bags

Florin · 18/11/2021 15:58

Worst for 8/9 year olds was the survival bracelet with concealed knife! That went missing very quickly!
I think cake in the party bag is always a waste as it is always squashed and after a party full of cake and sweets I don’t want him having even more sugar outside so it sits squashed on the side in the kitchen until the next day when it’s stale and I throw it away. We always do cake at the end of the party and let them eat it then.
Ds finds books very disappointing.
Loves a bag of tat and interesting sweets.

cannaethink · 18/11/2021 16:48

My kids love the plastic tat. The one time they got a book they were disappointed.
There was a mini rubics cube in a recent party bag which has been very popular.

Wow, bet that parent was popular Grin. I hope no siblings were harmed in the party aftermath!

Katshouldnotswim · 18/11/2021 17:00

I’ve done the floor snaps once and that went down very well

And then a Christmas decoration ( Xmas baby ) - (was a wooden nutcracker soldier ) which DH said was a really wierd idea but by then I’d bought 8. All the mums loved as it went onto their tree each year

1forAll74 · 18/11/2021 17:05

I never did party bags for my childrens parties, they just had some cake wrapped up to take home. after having some nice food and drinks to consume.., This was a long time ago, when it was thought that the child with the birthday had the giifts, not all the guests. It wasn't considered mean, it was considered sensible.

Squiblet · 18/11/2021 17:06

Best we ever had in a party bag was the giant balloons, really strong ones so they don't pop for weeks. The kids played with them every day as they bobbed about the front room.

Dinnertime22 · 18/11/2021 17:09

Sweetie Cones. Very cheap to do yourself.

LongRoseAhead · 18/11/2021 17:10

My daughter got bath bombs in a party bag once which she loved and I liked as it wasn’t around long to clutter up the house!

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 18/11/2021 17:15

Sweet cone with a little cardboard cake box for birthday cake to come home

Rainbowshit · 18/11/2021 17:17

Best ones were a book for each child or a football for each child. No tat. we still have both years later.

Skysblue · 18/11/2021 17:22

A fun book.
