Find my iPad randomly playing a sound

I've just been woken up by my iPad making a strange noise. On the screen it said Find My iPad is playing a sound.
Does anyone know why that would suddenly go off when I didn't request it to do so?
I'm now worried someone's hacked into my Apple account or something.

Do you have another device? Like an old iPhone you gave away? That’s the easiest way someone could be playing a sound. Logging on to iCloud on a computer is pretty secure with 2 factor authentication etc, but I suppose you could have been hacked?

I'm wondering if anyone in our family sharing group could have pushed it accidentally. Can you do that for other peoples devices?
Apart from dp, who was fast asleep next to me, they're young adults at uni who may well be awake at that time.

It is possible that if your devices are in a group that someone else might have activated the sound on yours when they meant to find theirs

I don’t use that, so it would depend on the way the group is set up. Great for a ‘family’ in a household, not so ideal in a single giant family group if your distant cousin can just click and track you down

Find my phone etc also have options to mark devices as lost/stolen and even remotely wipe them - I don’t know how much permission groups get
If I were you I’d now be going onto ‘find my’ to check what devices I can trace and what options I have among them

It can be handy for a group to be able to trace each other’s devices, but if you need to and are not part of a group then you can go onto another device and run ‘find my’ using your password anyway - just log out afterwards otherwise they have control to wipe etc
