Heathrow, anyone know how long it's taking to get through immigration at mo?

My DS is coming back soon from America, he's a UK resident. Have seen all the lengthy queues on TV etc. Is this for everyone or more for non-residents

We travelled from the US to the U.K. recently. The queue was outrageously long as all American, UK and EU passports were together. But because of the biometric gates it was really quick. Going back to the US was a different story though, the queues were nowhere near as long, but everything always takes so long due to their antiquated system.

We came to the UK recently (well almost three weeks now but it feels like recently!). There was hardly any queue for the e-gates at the time we arrived. Had to queue in the family lane for maybe 20 minutes?

We’ve only come back through Gatwick but hardly any queues for UK passports and definitely whizzed through each time
