My mother is nearing 80, is quite frail but mentally very well, she uses a rollator in the house, but when we go out we use a wheelchair. She has a ridiculously old wheelchair which cost around £50 several years ago. it is difficult to push, the seat is about to fall apart and although it folds, is often tricky to get to open again. We want a new one.
It is a minefield. We live in Portugal now, and are trying to purchase something probably from the UK. We saw something with e-motion wheels, but then were told that they made the chair very heavy.
Because of the portuguese calçada paving stones, we need something with a decent front wheel. She does not need to self propel, and we have to have a brake on the pushing handle.
Does anyone have any ideas of a lightweight chair that folds, which is fairly rugged? Happy to have one where the rear wheels unclip.
We just do not know which direction to go. We looked at one for £2000 (the e-motion one above) which was not suitable. Ideally something that could have an attachment to help us push when we walk from the villa, but that can be used as a normal wheelchair if we go out in the car.
Thank you.
