Although hopefully something will come up of the two interviews I have lined up. I'm tired and need a drink (again!)

Apologies if that goes against any rules on here (I'm a newbie so not sure if that is allowed!)

KeyLimePies · 16/11/2021 17:17

Are there any agencies that have the sort of roles you're looking for OP? I'm just thinking back to when I have looked for work in the past and have joined agencies. I would physically go to the agency and show my face then call in or 'phone them every day until they found me something (I think they wanted to get me off their back Grin)

I've had good success with getting my foot in the door in temp roles and then applying for internal roles once 'in'

BluebelllsRosesDaffodills · 16/11/2021 17:19

Do you meet the person specifications for the roles?

Could you send your CV to companies with no advertised vacancies to try and get an interview that way?

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:20

@Tabbacus almost seven year of my professional life were spent at a very well known .com but in very niche roles (which are difficult to translate) but for three years there I was simply a manager. The other years have moved into different directions, but I've focused on BizDev / AM / CSM. I'm also multilingual which very handy for these types of roles. Most companies I've had long chats with, they're very happy to just get me in, and the rest is up to me. I'm still waiting to hear back from one of them though!

Also if you find companies you like the look of - just try connect directly. By-pass the system if you can - either email or via LinkedIn - just make sure you are super authentic and personalised. I've had people do this and it works really well to get your attention!

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:21

Temp agencies generally have no interest in me... My type of role is normally not available in temping, and I'm seen as too senior!

With that experience and being multilingual it seems even more bizarre you aren't getting very far with applications.

Temp agencies deal with a lot of senior staff, seems bizarre as well.
Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:23

Well I am @Tabbacus as long as I apply for CSM roles, I only had that Eureka moment about a week ago.

OP posts:
Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:24

@Tabbacus I tried to register with one of them in a different county and they said they couldn't help! I'm registered with a few multilingual pens, but they've said they haven't found anything for me (TBH that's due to me only needing remote jobs).

@Terribleluck

Where abouts are you in the U.K. OP?

My company are hiring for many CSM, client relations manager and sales managers and they have offices in:

Manchester
Chester
Brighton
Southampton
Portsmouth
Bournemouth
Basingstoke
Cardiff
Bristol
Soon to be Essex & Cornwall.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to
Help / I'm not advertising, but I'm more than happy to PM you if you're near any of those locations and see if there's anything you're after.

I've been there for nearly 7 years and I love it. It's excellent pay. If you wanted me to PM you I can do. They're expanding rapidly and can do flexi / home working.

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:30

@danidandan yes please! I'll PM you!

Sorry don't mean to come across as harsh, the opposite. You seem to have a lot of experience and some really useful skills; we would be biting your hand off!

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 18:21

Oh no! I apologise @Tabbacus if I seemed too defensiy!

OP posts:
Tabbacus · 16/11/2021 18:25

No you didn't but I thought oh no hope is doesn't come across as such! I've done a lot of sifting through the years, and some people who were really weak in their applications and scraped through sift absolutely shine at interview and excel in the job; its usually quite simple things that they put on cvs etc that don't quite hit the mark.

thecatsthecats · 16/11/2021 18:30

Hmm, see I'm a specialist in cover-letter plus CV type applications. I went for an approach of very picky, specific and highly-tailored applications rather than en masse. No lying, but reshuffling my CV a lot to emphasise those things most relevant to the job. And a killer persuasive paragraph about why I reeeeally reeeeally wanted the job/to work for that company.

I got about 85% interviews from applications - could you try applying for fewer positions in more detail?

VladmirsPoutine · 16/11/2021 18:57

Good luck OP! I'm looking for a remote gig and having absolutely zero luck!

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 19:11

@thecats... That what my original gameplay, but over time I realised that super personalised CLs Vs semi template ones made no difference. Now I have what I think is a fairly good CL with two paragraphs that I customise depending on the role. CV wise, unless it's a very different role I tend not to change it as they all ask for exactly the same things.

OP posts:
Terribleluck · 17/11/2021 14:02

Well I've been rejected after the 4th interview saying I'm more aligned with business operations, whatever that means :/
