So I finally have my very first jumping spider

Don’t if it’s male or female hey and won’t know until it’s moulted a few times but this is Artemis. Named after the goddess of hunt. Was hatched on August 27th

Very tiny at the moment. About the size of a pencil lead

Aww congratulations.

I got my first jumper this time last year. Unfortunately she only lived 10 months. I loved her to bits.

Amazing little creatures.

This was my Lilith.

My hunch for yours is male Smile

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 16/11/2021 13:53

As an arachnophobe can I say those pictures are bloody excellent!

Those eyes in the first one are great. It's a picture like that that makes me look twice. As an arachnaphobe (twice through a phobia clinic and still prone to screaming) I know a bit more than many about the physiology of a spider and their eye, whilst creepy, are fascinating.

Just don't post a video of it moving, wherever you are you'd hear me scream - Smile

Starcaller · 16/11/2021 13:54

Gosh, I don't much like spiders but Lilith is gorgeous! She looks so friendly, bless her.

MangoBiscuit · 16/11/2021 13:55

Oh my god, so tiny and cute!

Lilith is adorable too, sorry for your loss.

OP, please update as they grow!

SirenSays · 16/11/2021 13:56

I really want to like them but the pictures make me itchy. How big will it get? What do you feed it?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/11/2021 13:58

I'm interested to know about the eyes. Why so many of them. They are quite cute but I wouldn't want to be too close.

Soubriquet · 16/11/2021 13:58

I will do. Currently fed on fruit flies and will get to about the size of a 5p pence. Maybe a bit bigger

I have feeling it’s a boy too but it’s so little right now that we won’t know until it’s older. It’s currently settling into their new enclosure and is already making a hammock so just be nicely settled

Spiders have lots of eyes. 6 or 8. Can’t remember now. But I guess it’s to help them see their prey

I love Lilith. I was kinda hoping for a female as I think they are prettier but if it turns out to be a male….just means I gotta buy more Grin

I really want a Bahamas but they are so difficult to get hold of and the only breeder that is really known for them is in high demand. She literally sells out of entire clutches within minutes

Yes I was watching her last Bahamas sell out on Facebook. I was so tempted. I still have Lils enclosure but have decided not to get another. I found the fly hatching quite hard (when she got onto greenbottles) and she never really took to crickets.

She helped with my arachnaphobia immeasurably though.

Soubriquet · 16/11/2021 14:10

All the pictures have massively helped with mine. I felt so sorry for the spider seller (no names) though. She gets so much harassment and she doesn’t deserve it. She’s so lovely and has been so polite with me

I got Artemis from Magick Morphs and she’s lovely too

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I think you should have my user name soubriquet.Wink.Grin.

I think so too Grin

I have never seen a spider that's about 15 cm long and 2 mm wide!
I'd call that a very small snake.
Grin

Ooh fantastic photos! I'd be interested to know the breeder you've both used - we're currently a praying mantis household but could be tempted to branch out!

Do either of you follow Ophelia the monster on fb? Fascinating little creatures!

AdelindSchade · 16/11/2021 14:21

They are surprisingly cute.

Soubriquet · 16/11/2021 14:22

Yes I follow Ophelia. I love all the spiders on there. Was gutted to see Lela had died

For spider breeders I recommend Magick Morphs (where I got mine from), Phidporium or Jumping Spiders London

All certified sellers

Jumping spiders are so cute. A friend had some, and I loved seeing photos of them. Look at all their cute little eyes.

lucysmam · 16/11/2021 14:25

@Soubriquet thanks, I'll take a look (with dd2 though! I'm likely to get told off if she isn't involved in the process 🤣
