Do drivers not display insurance details on windscreen?

Was just reading another thread and it got mentioned about other countries displaying insurance details on the Windshield.

Do you not do that in the UK? I’m in Ireland - I have my insurance disk, tax disk and NCT disk (national car test - like the MOT I think).

Just curious - I never thought about it before.

Nope, we don't

Sirzy · 16/11/2021 12:12

No. Not even tax disks anymore

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/11/2021 12:13

Not in any of the countries I've lived in.

Freshprincess · 16/11/2021 12:13

Nope. You have to display nothing. Don’t even need to carry it with you.

You used to have to display the road tax disc but that stopped a few years ago.

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/11/2021 12:15

Nothing displayed.

Angel2702 · 16/11/2021 12:18

No never had to do that. If someone doesn’t give you their insurance details you’d pass on their details to police or your own insurance company to deal with. The police check by number recognition if a car is taxed, MOTd and insured so physical copies on windscreen are not needed.

Lilyminilli · 16/11/2021 12:18

If you know the car registration number you can check the mot, tax and insurance status online. There is also an insurance database which all insurers need to update which is a central record of every vehicle which has insurance (so if it’s not there it’s uninsured). So no discs /paperwork required.

ratspeaker · 16/11/2021 12:18

Don't need to display any of them but police can call up the details in seconds.
One of my relatives was in a crash and so flustered she could not remember anything but police assured her she was insured as paramedics took her to ambulance.
Anyone can check mot and tax of a car by putting reg number into gov website.

Never realised that! As a side question - do you have to have your driving license on you?

You have to either have it on you or be able to produce it within a certain number of days.

You are allowed to drive while awaiting a new photochromic for example, or if your licence is stolen.

LIZS · 16/11/2021 12:24

No you don't need insurance details or driving licence in the car.

RobertsRadio · 16/11/2021 12:28

As other have said you don't need to display or even carry your insurance details or your driving license on you. However I do keep a copy of my insurance certificate in my glove compartment.

gogohm · 16/11/2021 12:30

No, all computerised now, police have instant access and public can even check

BlackeyedSusan · 16/11/2021 12:38

you have to be able to produce your driving licence within 24 hours I think.

StickersStickers · 16/11/2021 13:01

We have to have our driving licence on us/in the car at all times. Think we can get a fine if not.
