Christmas volunteering?

OldSpeclkledHen · 15/11/2021 15:46

Need MN amazing advice again please!

Where can I volunteer please to help out somewhere on Christmas Day?

Direct links preferably, am foiled by Google (my brain doesn't think like a computer does!)

Or any idea's or inspiration? I've got a few free days (and selfishly don't want to be alone!)

Am based Hampshire/Berkshire/Wiltshire (but could do Oxfordshire?)

Thanks 😊

It’s usually too late at this time of year - The number of volunteers shoots up around Christmas, and some charities don’t accept one-off periods around then anymore as it’s time & effort to train someone and they only do a few shifts a year, if that.

You could look locally at soup kitchens, homeless charities, any small local charities that you have… the big ones are likely to be sorted, when I used to volunteer, you had to put your name down for Christmas in March.

It’s also worth thinking of things you could maybe do, incase there’s few options… taking biscuits to the fire station, for example, that type of thing? And look to see if there’s anything on for people by themselves where you are. A pub near me used to be open most of the day for people who were by themselves or didn’t want to be at home - that was nice.

@TakeYourFinalPosition Wow! Thank You so much!

I'll look up local soup kitchens etc

I'll happy drop off biscuits etc to Emergency Service's, they do such an amazing job 🙂 so that's a great idea 👍🏻

I'd rather be doing something, rather than going to a 'social' event ifswim? 😉
