Tell me about bugles

While watching the Festival of Remembrance and the Cenotaph service, I was interested in seeing that the bugles etc dont have - are they called valves? to give the notes like trumpets . How does this work? Probably a thick question but never thought about it before . Bugle is a strange word isnt it !

A bugle is basically a trumpet without valves. The notes a played by tightening your lips. There are usually only 5 notes(6 if your are really good)

The secret is not to puff out your cheeks
