"I'm humbled"

Filmstars etc. Are always 'humbled' by the number of people who helped/loved/adored/voted for them.
FB friends are 'humbled' by the hundreds of birthday wishes they've received.
Come on guys, your bloody proud, not humbled!

Just getting that off my chest.

This drives me mad too and I noticed something similar, several TV chefs who go on about celebrating humble vegetables. It drives me mad. "I'm going to show you a recipe that celebrates the humble cauliflower". Some of them even elevate their humble veg Grin

Yep. Just like there's no such thing as a "humble brag". There's a "I'm afraid I'll be chastised for bragging so I'll tell you that I'm humble while saying it" brag.

I do think it's sad that people can't say something positive about themselves or what they've done without someone accusing them of bragging, hence the introduction of the "humble brag".

Thanks for this thread. Had to get this off my chest too.

The guy who has been doing the 24 hour drumming on bbc breakfast has been very ‘humbled’.

I know because (yes I know he’s raised a brilliant amount for charity, it’s a great achievement and I’m not disputing it) they’ve given a dedicated twenty minute segment to it about five days in a row now, and frankly I’m sick of hearing about it.
