What are you asking DP/DH for this Christmas?

Patapouf · 14/11/2021 19:54

I don't really know what I want and there's nothing I really need. DH keeps asking what I'd like and I want to give some suggestions but I'm coming up with nothing.

I definitely don't want nothing at all Grinand last Christmas he bought me something expensive but it was a shit gift because I didn't like/want/need it and this year I don't want to be made to feel like an ungrateful cow!

Budget is probably £200-250 but I'd be happy to cap that at £50 really so what are you all asking for/buying yourselves and giving the OH to wrap for you?

A new laptop backpack.

I’m otherwise quite easily pleased with nice socks, perfume, chocolates, bits of makeup, books etc.

RubyTuesday70 · 14/11/2021 19:59

We had this discussion last weekend, as DH is very well known for his "off grid" present buying. So we chose a new cashmere and silk dressing gown for me from Shibumi, only it arrived yesterday and it was a very disappointing experience to open! So it's going back and I'm now having to find something else.

I was so happy that I'd done this early too Grin

Why not? If you don't know what you want then surely you want nothing. Never understood this.

Because being the only one without a gift to open at Christmas is miserable! It's nice to have a treat, I just don't want to waste family money on something shit.

They look gorgeous, why was it so disappointing?

I'm getting slippers, and some Clarins stuff I probably couldn't justify otherwise. I've picked the slippers, lol.

Twospaniels · 14/11/2021 20:13

We both need new wellies, so we’ve bought them for each other.
We live in the countryside and have dogs and a horse so they are used a lot.
Nice neoprene lines and will keep our feet lovely and warm.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 14/11/2021 20:14

He’s giving me a dinky little picnic basket that I picked out. It will arrive tomorrow, and it will be wrapped up and hidden away until the big day.🎄🎄🎄

For £250-ish I’d get one of these: a wool cape, a cashmere hat and scarf, a pair of F&F Boudica boots, another hat (wool fedora) and a silk scarf, or maybe a piece of jewellery.

lurkingfromhome · 14/11/2021 20:25

On my list are the new Nigel Slater cookbook, an Oodie type thing (the cheap version of!), a nice moisturiser, a box of Paul A Young chocolates and some sheepskin Birkenstocks.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/11/2021 20:26

Why is the budget so high if you don't want anything? It's taking the shine off the gift by putting pressure on you to think of something worthwhile so the money isn't wasted. If you have to tell him what to buy it's not a gift and there's no thinking and choosing being done on his part.

If you don't want anything and don't want a surprise, wouldn't it be better to cut back to a couple of smaller cheaper gifts so you have something to open? Then the money that he would have spent can be saved or spent on something else later that you actually do want.

Eg if you like gin, ask DH to choose you a nice bottle so there's some element of surprise but no risk of the money being wasted?

Hedgesgalore · 14/11/2021 20:26

Ipods (the noise cancelling ones) so I can mow the lawn without getting tangled up in my wires from my existing, clunky noise cancelling headphones.

Also, I've ordered a rose hedge package from David Austin as an extra present from him.

Last year he got me a big set of Stellar saucepans, maybe not everyones choice but I love them as I do a lot of cooking and Stellar are so good. I'm on the lookout for more Grin

RubyTuesday70 · 14/11/2021 20:30

The print of the gown was gorgeous, @Patapouf but it was paper thin, very very long (I'm 5 ft 6") and it was dry clean only. With the hem dragging round on the floor behind me, I didn't think it would stay clean for long, not with 2 spaniels in the house. It just had no substance, which was really disappointing when I've coveted one for so long.

Patapouf · 14/11/2021 20:36

@RubyTuesday70 that's crap then, for that much money you'd expect something a bit more luxe!

I usually send dh a list so he can choose something. Clinique skincare, scarf, slippers, new bag, perfume - always something I would use - and then it's pot luck what arrives. He does an Amazon wishlist with dvds, cds etc and I do similar. Plus usually look for a small surprise.

Afonavon · 14/11/2021 20:46

Air pods pro

Everything by UpCircle skincare

Subscription to Audible (if they do subscriptions)

Cashmere jumper

A massive Keith Brymer Jones mug.

I’d have a browse through Etsy and NOTHS for inspiration

TokyoSushi · 14/11/2021 20:53

A Hush sweatshirt and Laura Mercier hand cream.

Afonavon · 14/11/2021 20:57

I won’t get all of this of course, but I would love and appreciate some of it.

c24680 · 14/11/2021 21:07

I've asked for a new Fitbit, that's all I really want this year, I usually get some chocolates and perfume too.

Rizzoli123 · 14/11/2021 21:24

I don't want anything. I have to make a list of things I would like so I have put lots of random stuff on there. Photocopier (for my cross stitch charts), lots of tickets (musicals mainly sister act, beauty and the beast). After covid I just want to get out and do things

Mooloolabababy · 14/11/2021 21:26

We've both said that we're happy not to have anything this year.
Neither of us need or particularly want anything and it'll be an expensive one this year so we said we'll hit the sales after Christmas and choose something then.

BadlydoneHelen · 14/11/2021 21:28

Some David Austin bare root roses plus some tubs or barrels to plant them in
AirPods
Clarins Eau Dynamisante
A new laptop case
Some liquid salted caramels from M&S
A pair of Swarovski diamond studs

My guess is I might get the caramelsGrin

MintMe · 14/11/2021 21:33

Scamp & Dude hoodie
Neom candle
Hotel Chocolat liqueurs
Those nice fingerless gloves
A couple of books

hopeishere · 14/11/2021 21:38

Some earrings and a SpaceNK voucher probably.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/11/2021 21:39

I don't need anything but as joke I suggested this ring.
it's over 11 grand.
he said ok😱
(yeah...but no)

he doesn't want anything either but I'm wondering what crazy stuff he's gonna come up with 🤣

I don't need anything but we do choose something thoughtful for each other. The less it costs the better. As long as it's thoughtful.

I bought a boot scraper for my DH. He's always in the garden, it cost pennies but is amazingly useful.
