What are you asking DP/DH for this Christmas?

Patapouf · 14/11/2021 19:54

I don't really know what I want and there's nothing I really need. DH keeps asking what I'd like and I want to give some suggestions but I'm coming up with nothing.

I definitely don't want nothing at all Grinand last Christmas he bought me something expensive but it was a shit gift because I didn't like/want/need it and this year I don't want to be made to feel like an ungrateful cow!

Budget is probably £200-250 but I'd be happy to cap that at £50 really so what are you all asking for/buying yourselves and giving the OH to wrap for you?

oops.
no idea why the photo is posted twice

anyhoo, I usually get a big box of Ferrero Rocher (the variety type) and a mug.
Then I buy lots of sock yarn, but this year I think I might buy some 4-way stretch jersey fabric

thedevilinablackdress · 14/11/2021 21:46

Probably a book and chocolate liqueurs as usual.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/11/2021 21:56

oh and he usually gets Bailey's or some whiskey (he likes Monkey Shoulder atm) and a bottle of Badedas bath from me.

And because I forgot to buy him his annual Father's Day gift I'll get him that as well.

@BarbaraofSeville

Why is the budget so high if you don't want anything? It's taking the shine off the gift by putting pressure on you to think of something worthwhile so the money isn't wasted. If you have to tell him what to buy it's not a gift and there's no thinking and choosing being done on his part.

If you don't want anything and don't want a surprise, wouldn't it be better to cut back to a couple of smaller cheaper gifts so you have something to open? Then the money that he would have spent can be saved or spent on something else later that you actually do want.

Eg if you like gin, ask DH to choose you a nice bottle so there's some element of surprise but no risk of the money being wasted?

Because that's what we can comfortably afford without it being a bigger deal I guess? I already know what im getting DH and it's at that price point and we tend to stick to this sort of budget because then when it comes to birthdays we can spend more to make it extra special (as in birthdays are special for that person whereas Christmas is for everyone).

I think if I ask DH for a nice box of chocs he will feel bad when he opens his gift from me or he will just go off piste and buy some expensive crap I don't want just so he's 'used up' the budget.

Some nice I was here. I do quite enjoy a surprise (as long as it's a good one) so maybe I should provide a list of smaller things and hope I get a stocking with a few of them in.

There are some bigger ticket things I do want (but do not need) but for various reasons they aren't practical right now - I'd like a weekend away but not feasible due to DCs and I'd like a new bag but have nowhere nice to wear it on mat leave Wink

I’m not what I would like this year, last year my DH surprised me with a Dyson hairdryer and my first GHD straighteners and both were fabulous presents.

FigureofEight · 14/11/2021 22:17

I don't have a partner to buy thing for me so I've learnt it's fun to get things for myself and wrap them up. Then kids enjoy the fun of me opening stuff too oddly.

Oodie
New fluffy slippers
I'd like a new MacBook but they are really ££££ so probably not.

I also do a couple of stocking items. That's the best bit. ALL STUFF I WANT !

millerpie · 14/11/2021 22:29

We’ve set the same sort of budget. I’ve asked for white company cashmere bed socks, course books I need, crufts tickets and fat face pyjamas.

blossomtree323 · 14/11/2021 22:36

I have asked for a pair of Snoopy slippers Grin

YorkieTheRabbit · 14/11/2021 22:39

I’m getting some Celtic & co slippers, I’ll order them Grin
He usually buys me an Elemis skincare set and I’d like one this year too.
Cherry liqueurs

popcorndiva · 14/11/2021 22:41

For Christmas I have asked for a hamper from Buckingham Palace. As a fan of royalty and can use the hamper afterwards for storage whilst treating myself to nice bits inside.

My birthday is next week and I have asked for
Wild rhubarb diffuser from White company (waiting for black Friday for this)
Head and Shoulders shampoo bar as keen to go more eco and use less plastic in the house
Calligraphy pens and beginners guide as I want to learn a new skill

lovablequalities · 14/11/2021 23:02

DH and I do 4 things:

Something to wear
Something to read
Something to eat
Something to drink

He has amazing taste in jewellery so usually gets me something second hand/vintage that I really love. We have bought each other the same book in the past 😂. I always get him fancy whisky and chocolate covered cocoa beans but he's really random: one year he bought me a case of mango chutney.

We both have winter birthdays so a "formula" for Christmas is lovely.

dreamygirl25 · 14/11/2021 23:28

I think I'd like theatre tickets, ugg boots to wear as slippers, a new rotating hairbrush, chanel coco noir, a sheepskin rug for by my bed, some really nice bath stuff, various skincare/beauty items, new socks, some items for my hobby, nice hot chocolate, hotel chocolate box, voucher for a favourite shop, something from toast, a new hockey stick, new purse, new phone, kindle subscription, new watch. ..

I could think of lots of things I'd like. But in reality we are so hard up right now I'd be happy for the socks and some bath stuff! Grin

Allywill · 14/11/2021 23:40

New iPad. My old one can’t seem to handle the iOS 15 update and I am having numerous issues with it.

fuckyourpronouns · 15/11/2021 07:18

@RubyTuesday70

We had this discussion last weekend, as DH is very well known for his "off grid" present buying. So we chose a new cashmere and silk dressing gown for me from Shibumi, only it arrived yesterday and it was a very disappointing experience to open! So it's going back and I'm now having to find something else.

I was so happy that I'd done this early too Grin

Omg! I have asked DH for one of these for Xmas. What was so disappointing about it?! Thinking I might need to see it before Xmas day now!

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 15/11/2021 07:27

New walking boots, mime are ancient and not as comfy since I had a spell
of plantar fasciitis a few years ago. Also have a list of books I'd like.

44PumpLane · 15/11/2021 07:40

I'm not particularly bothered by surprises, and we are fortunate that if we want or need something we can typically justify fitting it into our monthly spending, however the children like to see us open presents and we enjoy having a couple of bits on the day.

I ordered a special book to be wrapped for me, not looked at it so will be special on Christmas.
I've also asked for a lego set, oh and another book.
My husband is an amazing gift giver, me not so much as I think I'm easy to buy for and he isn't.

I bought him a Tile last year that has gone down really well as he is forever losing his keys.

Last year I bought a few fancier toiletries than I'd usually get, like No7 body scrub and foot cream, thi ming he wpuod need the inspo, but he'd bought me an ipad!!

Rubadubdub21 · 15/11/2021 08:06

My birthday is Christmas day. Dh has got me a gorgeous ring and a Imperial Christmas candle.

I have no idea what I want for Christmas so I told him to surprise me. He's very good at surprises. Me not so much.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 15/11/2021 08:18

For anyone disappointed with fancy dressing gowns, I got one from British Boxers last year and it's just lovely. Cotton, but warm in winter too, the line is really sleek and elegant so I come over all Nancy Mitford whilst sashaying around the house, and it washes beautifully Smile

VenusClapTrap · 15/11/2021 08:25

I’d really like a leather/suede trench coat. I’ve been after one for years because I had one a long time ago and I loved it so much. Eventually it fell apart.

Similarly to the kimono lady, I thought I’d found one at the right price (there’s a lot around but they are often around £1K, which I can’t justify) from Muubaa, so I ordered it meaning to wrap it and put it away. But when it arrived the quality was so poor I sent back.

Wantubackforgood · 15/11/2021 21:05

Rainsisters coat this year .
Best presents I ever had was an ice machine one year and a kitchen aid mixer, which I still use a decade later and it makes me happy as I would never have bought it for myself .

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 15/11/2021 21:18

@ExcessiveIyDisorganised

now you mention it I do need a pair of walking boots.
I did a bit of research earlier this year but it's such a minefield with quite contradictory feedback on some products that I just left it.

What brand are you going for?

I haven't decided yet, DD got a lovely pair for her DofE from Decathlon and we've got Go Outdoors not too far away too so I think I will have to go and have a try on session, I'd rather do that TBH than trying to order online.

EveryoneIsUnique · 15/11/2021 21:38

A tortoise and whole set up Grin
