What are you asking DP/DH for this Christmas?

Patapouf · 14/11/2021 19:54

I don't really know what I want and there's nothing I really need. DH keeps asking what I'd like and I want to give some suggestions but I'm coming up with nothing.

I definitely don't want nothing at all Grinand last Christmas he bought me something expensive but it was a shit gift because I didn't like/want/need it and this year I don't want to be made to feel like an ungrateful cow!

Budget is probably £200-250 but I'd be happy to cap that at £50 really so what are you all asking for/buying yourselves and giving the OH to wrap for you?

We want a king bed so are going in on it together. Boring and practical but will make the biggest difference. We’d also like a robovac but I can’t justify the cost.

StoopitAutocarrot · 15/11/2021 21:51

Salty licorice
Fancy gin
New jigsaw
Theatre tix
New Richard osman book
Radio times subscription
Chocolate coffee beans
Tony chocoloneys

Dh has just told me he wants a split laundry basket!

Chocolategirl19791 · 15/11/2021 21:54

A heated throw. I've already got a blanket permanently over me working from home and it's not even winter yet. I don't do cold....

I found an antique Opal ring I love, dropped a massive hint and he asked me my ring size today, so it all looking good

@Chocolategirl19791 I treated myself to one a few weeks ago, it's AMAZING!

CurryLover55 · 15/11/2021 21:59

Haven’t really thought about it but I do need new ankle boots & I’ve got my eye on a lovely faux fur rug for the bedroom ( our carpet is crap!)

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 15/11/2021 22:02

@ExcessiveIyDisorganised @ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

Try GoOutdoors for walking boots, find a pair and if you can find the same, on line anywhere they will match the price and give 10% (i think) extra off. My dh got a pair of £120 boots for £85 after someone tipped us off in the shop. A quick google and we walked away £35 better off

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 15/11/2021 22:05

Thanks @WickedWitchOfTheTrent, I find the whole discount card thing in GO annoying but that does sound like a great bargain!

HelloDoris · 15/11/2021 22:10

I've had my wish list up and running all year (Dec birthday) so the husband gets mighty anxious about buying two sets of gifts each year around the same time.

I'm hoping I'll get a walk with goats and some bits (thermals and so on) for my trip to Iceland next year.. I've got him the same comic book subscription I buy him every year, I'll also get him a T-shirt and some sweets..

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 15/11/2021 22:12

On my general ideas list (I haven’t decided which thing I’d like yet)
Led face mask
Chrome book - my old one has broken
White company candle
Suffragette ring
Tile
Cheeseboard with dome lid - vintage pref
Coat from Jack Wills that I randomly liked
Tickets for a comedy show
Fancy rum
Bee keeping course

WildStallyn · 15/11/2021 22:23

I've asked for theatre tickets

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 15/11/2021 22:29

@WickedWitchOfTheTrent

thanks for tip, I've saved info

the problem is that I'd have to try them on. I'd have to try on several pairs in fact but the very idea of going from shop to shop is exhausting.
I utterly hate shopping (unless we talk about beautiful luxury hanx dyed sockyarns!😁) and I'd rather pour hot wax in my ear then do a shop crawl...

so the other option is to order stuff in then return....urgh.
I might just fix my old Hawkshead boots

now you mention it I do need a pair of walking boots.
I did a bit of research earlier this year but it's such a minefield with quite contradictory feedback on some products that I just left it.

What brand are you going for?[/quote]
I swear by Merrell walking boots and shoes, nothing beats them.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 15/11/2021 22:39

@Chatwin

thanks
I looked at Merrel, Karrimor and 2 other brands I now can't remember.

side note: DH has just showed me my "surprise" gift.🤣
it's perfect, we watch Die Hard every Christmas Eve and I had wanted a top like that forever (I don't do jumpers so t-shirt is fab)

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 15/11/2021 23:20

I've got Merrell snow boots which are great for walking on the flat in cold/wet weather, you can even wade through streams in them but aren't walking boots. However I've also got a pair of Merrell sandals that just aren't comfy after more than an hour or so so I'm on the fence with them. I don't mind shopping so I will head to GO at some point (@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba
its near a local yarn shop!).

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 15/11/2021 23:27

@ExcessiveIyDisorganised

Yeah, my need is to have feet warm & dry in cold, wet weather on school run, not so much for actual trekking.
I have a pair of Rocketdog boots which I bought almost unused in a charity shop 5 years ago for £8. They are incredibly warm but the right heel now has a hole in it so can't use them in rain.
I'll check out the snow boots

BonnyandPoppy · 15/11/2021 23:38

I asked for a new electric toothbrush as the batter is pretty knackered on my old one

BookFiend4Life · 16/11/2021 02:31

We are having bookcases made for the library in our new house so I've been filling a wishlist with books that I want for it. I also want a stand mixer or a new toaster oven. The toaster oven is more practical but I've coveted the stand mixer for so long.

BookFiend4Life · 16/11/2021 02:33

@EveryoneIsUnique

A tortoise and whole set up Grin
Aww that's sweet. I like their little faces.

Walking boots are very personal and what is good for one person doesn't work for someone else so you really need to try them on.

Once you've done that you might as well just buy them and have done with it instead of Saying 'its from DH for Christmas' because how is it?

It's not Christmas and he didn't choose them. And if you're married or in the same household, it's all the same money in the end anyway.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/11/2021 04:47

*Because that's what we can comfortably afford without it being a bigger deal I guess? I already know what im getting DH and it's at that price point and we tend to stick to this sort of budget because then when it comes to birthdays we can spend more to make it extra special (as in birthdays are special for that person whereas Christmas is for everyone).

I think if I ask DH for a nice box of chocs he will feel bad when he opens his gift from me or he will just go off piste and buy some expensive crap I don't want just so he's 'used up' the budget*

See I don't look at it as spending more makes it more special, what makes it special for me is when they see something they think I will like and buy it for me because they've had that thought, whether it's 50 p or £50.

If they've not done that and I've had to say 'buy me this for Christmas' it's not really special at all because all that's been done is made me getting something I want way more complicated. I've already identified the want, done the research and found the item in stock, hopefully at a price I'm happy with so I might as well just buy it then instead of turning into a 'this is my Christmas gift' charade.

DinosApple · 16/11/2021 08:06

I've asked for a new Fitbit for birthday and Christmas. I've lost my old one in a house move and need a prod to get fit. Whether DH takes that very direct hint is another matter.
He suggested a tool box (not totally random as related to a hobby) but I'd rather the Fitbit as I can't justify a big lump of money on myself at present whereas a tool box I could get another time.

I did see some jumpers I liked but DH told me he thought the trend for that style would pass very quickly 😂 - he's not at all fashion conscious so that made me laugh.
