Hmm
Which anime is he into?

SweepTheHalls · 14/11/2021 15:55

Does he like the Manga books?

Hoppinggreen · 14/11/2021 15:56

Both of mine are (one of them is a 12 year old boy).
There is a huge variety of anime and some of it is pretty dodgy. Also my dc seem to be clear which ones they like and which ones they don’t and so it’s hard to buy generic ā€œanimeā€ Merch.
My Hero Academia is a pretty safe bet

HMV had some anime bits in. They had posters/dvds/books/calenders etc when I was in a couple of weeks ago looking for things for my 9 year old dd.

Dragon ballšŸ¤”
My 2 hate Dragon Ball, it’s for little kids apparently
StampOnIt · 14/11/2021 17:47

My Dcs all love anything studi Ghibli, My Hero Acedamia, Toilet-Bound Hanako-Kun, Dd1 likes TokyoGhoul, but she's 15 and I'm not sure it's suitable for younger than that.
You can get lots of studio Ghibli merchandise from aliexpress which I've always found reliable, but can take a few weeks for things to arrive. Uniqlo sometimes do kids T-Shirts with anime designs too.
The Land of Ingary books upon which Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving castle is based are great if he likes reading.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/11/2021 17:54

Tons of Dragon ball merch on EMP. www.emp.co.uk/fan-merch/dragon-ball-z/

ThesecondLEM · 14/11/2021 17:56

My DD has been into anime and manga for a few years now, she is 16. There is a fair bit of merchandise available, try HMV. Things like my hero acedemia are good and age appropriate and I believe full metal alchemist is popular as well.

Do be aware that not all anime and manga is suitable for a younger audience and the age categories might not be as you'd expect.

Death note for instance, whilst absolutely brilliant is categorised as age 12 on Netflix and i wouldn't agree, there were scenes of potential sexual violence that really needed a 15 imo. Some of the manga that DD, now 16, enjoys is pretty graffic and whilst she self censors (think nerdy sensitive girl) and I let her choose her own I don't tend to buy her new authors unless I check with her first. Junji Ito is amazing artist but the books are most definitely not aimed at children.

ThesecondLEM · 14/11/2021 17:58

You can buy books on how to draw manga/anime
