Sports Direct Gym - they are making it impossible to cancel my membership

Emailed them in October to say I want to cancel due to relocation. They responded to this email. I thought the cancellation (3months) was going through. Today I chased them up on something else and they responded to tell me that I was supposed to have cancelled via their website, so my cancellation hasn't even started yet. Sounds like a scam to get an extra month's payment from me.

Anyone else had problems cancelling with Sports Direct?

Just cancel the DD via your bank?

I signed a contract with them - I'm pretty sure they can give me a CCJ if I do that.

Did you save the email? Use it as proof that you wanted to cancel.

Did the email acknowledging your intention to cancel, give you instructions to cancel via website? If so, then you don't have a case. Mint if they didn't instruct you, then yes, it's a ploy to get another month out of you. I'd speak to the manager and give them "feedback" as their process is lacking.
Then I'd cancel the DD

No the email on 18th October didn't advise me to cancel via their website. The first time they advised me to cancel via their website was 13th November.

A quick Google of the Ts&Cs says you can cancel by emailing or using the form

You may cancel your Rolling Term Contract on giving us three calendar months’ written notice. You may give us notice by emailing us at [email protected] or using the online form at https://www.sportsdirectfitness.com/contactt** or by visiting the kiosk at your Home Club*

So as long as you used that form your golden! Just email them back and say that.

And actually if your new address is more than 10miles form a club, you only have to give one months notice

FanGirlX · 15/11/2021 23:27

It is more than 10 miles away but they want a utility bill, which I won't have until I move.
