Poetry Voices

Am I alone in this - finding people doing readings so cringe. It feels like gcse drama when ever I hear a famous person reading poems out. This one now on the remembrance service , the one on radio 4 the other day. I prefer hearing kids or normal people reading them out loud if someone has to and I’m not allowed to just read them.

Poets generally hate the way actors read poems, if it helps. Especially if they are mangling one of their poems with their Special Voices.

Oh really? Yes it’s just so mangled and SIGNIFICANT

How do poets link their poems to be read?

God, I prefer a voice. Poets reading their work can soul destroying.. not the voice you hear in your head .
E.g W.B Yeats , Auden
