So am I supposed to know what the heck all these abbreviations you all use stand for?

Eg; DH, DS, H, il?? It’s like some code and I’ve no idea who or what your all on about please share!!

OP posts:

D just stands for dear/darling

So DH - dear husband, DC - dear child, DS - dear son.
H - husband.
IL - in laws

Do new posters not get the clickable links on the abbreviations, didn't that used to be a thing?

JurgensCakeBaby · 13/11/2021 20:32

My favourite is STBXH when I was new to MN I thought this meant stupid bastard ex husband (which worked in context) but it's actually soon to be ex husband, I still see it as the former

SequinnedShawl · 13/11/2021 20:37

There used to be a handy doohickey showing all the abbreviations but it's not showing on my phone (I suspect the majority of people on mumsnet are on their phone rather than a laptop)

I think you might be thinking of Netmums.
dementedpixie · 13/11/2021 20:43

Although CF also means cheeky fucker (looking at list)

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 13/11/2021 20:58

No @pastabest I've never been on netmums, I'm 99% sure it was an option you could choose to have as a new poster

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 13/11/2021 21:02

Found it @pastabest and @ShabsLovesTiff you can tick it in your customise options

I was SHOCKED when I first saw that link as I thought RTFT meant “read the full thread” not “read the fucking thread”!!
RaraRachael · 13/11/2021 21:23

I've never seen the point of all these abbreviations. It takes me longer to type DS than it does son Confused

Cakeismyhero · 13/11/2021 21:42

I've only just learnt that STBXH isnt stab the bastard ex husband Shock Grin

2020isnotbehaving · 13/11/2021 21:46

For years I thought the “I’m on” button was for tracking your periods if trying conceive Grin

WisestIsShe · 13/11/2021 21:48

That list doesn't include NSFW which is essential info. Not safe for work, means definitely do not Google it!

Newbabynewhouse · 13/11/2021 22:15

For some reason, i akways read CF and C*t fucker i donr know why hahhahaaa

tensmum1964 · 13/11/2021 22:22

Have just read a thread that had TDLR in it. I can't work that one out.

dementedpixie · 13/11/2021 22:23

Is it not TLDR?
'Too long didn't read' I think

AlphabetStew · 13/11/2021 22:24

Too Long, Didn't Read

I think that’s a mix up of the letters in the acronym: Too long, didn’t read
CarButtonCloth · 13/11/2021 22:25

TLDR = Too long, don't read. Not just used on Mumsnet. Usually precedes a brief summary of a thread/article.

tensmum1964 · 13/11/2021 22:41

Oh thank you. That makes sense Smile
